The key is to make friends. You literally find a chat room or place on the internet where people have similar interests or hobbies, and start talking about said interests. Then you gradually start asking about the person out of curiosity and a connection is born. Pretty simple to a certain degree.

It looks like the bots are advertised more on the app or website version of Messenger, not within the desktop version of Facebook itself.
