The best response to this sort of thing is really crying, like really breaking down. They expect you to be hurt and run away, they don't expect you to actually take it like a beatdown. In High School I was shy and studious. Not hated but pretty invisible. I worked hard in college and became a mechanical engineer.
My 10 year reunion: The hottest chicks from middle school and the bitchy high school ones are looking really haggard. Hard partying will do that to you.
Some of the "plain" girls from high school are looking really fine. They are mostly nice to me.

20 year reunion: The formerly hot chicks are all fat, or really, really haggard looking. Most of the really bitchy girls never showed up. A few of the regular girls from school now look really hot, but many are pretty. Most of the nerdy guys have wives that are hotter than the average girl from school

30 year reunion (just last summer): No hot, bitchy girls from high school turn up. Almost all of the girls are fat. Many women make a point of chatting with me and say how they "always liked me" (they never talked to me in school, this is just a way to try and flirt with me). They tell stories about how bad life is for the bitchy chicks (except for the lucky one who married a really rich guy). My wife is 15 years younger and hotter than any of them. I smile
