My theory is that it's about wanting to have sex, per se, but more the intimacy itself and the feeling that someone could actually like you enough to want to get naked with you. It's about getting over the insecurity and loneliness that most robots seem to feel. It's not a cure by itself but it probably would be a tremendous boost to a person's self-value and confidence, at least for a little while.
