Work is your best option, especially if you aren't in your twenties anymore. Best thing you can do is find someone who shares an interest with you, then capitalize on it.
As an example, I started working in a hospital recently. Guy I was training with asked me what I did for fun, and eventually we got onto the topic of MLS teams and our overall favorite leagues. When I mentioned I was an Arsenal fan, he told me that Philly had an Arsenal bar and that we can go next time we're both off.
