Is anyone here into precious stones and substances (herbs, spices, woods, gemstones, metals, amber, shells, etc)?
What is your favourite substance? What does it mean to you? Why do you like it so much?

Looks like a necklace made of fish oil capsules.

So what do you think looks better?

To be honest, spices, gemstones, antiques (doesn't even have to be rare/ancient antiques, just things that seem cool and are a bit old, like a windup watch necklace that isn't made anymore or something), and unusual coins like pic related are pretty fucking neat in my eyes.
I try to find and collect as many things like that as I can, but sometimes don't keep them and use them for something.

does amber break down like most other natural things?
it's basically tree sap...

i like and collect turquoise.
i don't know why i like it so much.

It's fossilized. But yes, it's not a hard rock. Heat it up enough and it will burn like incense, giving off a pine tree smell.

fuck that would probably smell nice in a room.
is amber relatively cheap to buy? unlike a precious stone i mean.

Precious stones are dirt cheap as long as you're not going about it like a muggle.

Little chips and drops are cheap and commonly found in the Baltic. The large ones are quite rare and expensive. Problem is though that they are so prone to counterfeiting as it's so easy to pass off plastics or some other substance as amber.
I had an amethyst cluster that was seriously possessed or something, ever since I brought it home I would have nightmares about demons and at night it would make high pitched mechanical whirring REEEEEE noises at me. And I know it wasn't just sleep paralysis or something because the other people in my house heard the noises too. So I chucked it into the back yard because I was ascare of it but it was so pretty I didn't want to put it in the trash even though it is demonically possesed.
I unironically have a coin collection. I collect unique bills too. Mostly star notes.
None of it's actually worth more than face value, I just think it's a fun way to spice up a job as cashier.

>yfw it could have potentially been a dwemer artifact crystal

trust me, in some time it will eventually be worth more, it will be considered unique.
it will take time though, obviously, a lot of time.

sapphires are pretty nice

Awesome thread, OP.
I myself am into sterling silver (interesting superstitions, also pretty consistent value over time.)
I also love treen, especially teak stuff, and also anything brass.
Other cool things include lead stained glass, wool, especially wool rugs and blankets, definitely amber, jade.
Things that both last forever and provide aesthetic beauty are the best.
