are girl childhood friends a real thing in irl or is this just an anime thing
I thought all girls were icky until like the seventh grade
I could never imagine actually having an innocent childhood (girl)friend

Most of my friends as a child were girls.
But then I'm a tranny, so I'm probably an exception.
Most anime is produced by assburger otaku living out their own fantasies of a childhood they never had.
The reason why the idea of childhood friends, or having a senpai, or incest relationships are so appealing to anime creators is because they are all situations in which a boy is in contact with a girl without the boy having to go out of their way to initiate a relationship, meet people on his own initiative, or do anything really. It's just an example of a relationship that falls into people laps. Again, because they are so assburgers and they write the characters after themselves, its the only way they can get characters to believably be in contact with a girl.
That explains why its so popular compared with anime where the MC just meets a girl, or asks her out.

That reminds me. Why are so many anime MCs pathetic beta males who somehow gets all the girls to like him? It's fucking lame.
Maybe it's a small town thing. Only like 10 people from my primary school went to my high school (and it was local) and even then I think only like 2 or 3 finished.
In fact I don't have male childhood friends either. My oldest friends I met at the start of high school.
Other relevant factors might be that I changed a lot or that I succeeded academically / professionally despite coming from a poor area.
They're real
Even though my two best friends from elementary school were tomboyish, I didn't have an actual male friend until 7th grade, I just got along with girls better.
I'm not gay, either

I had female friends as a kid. But I don't know any of them now.
I had a girl childhood friend, she's still my friend to this day. Cool gal.
