Sure, there MAY BE 13 year olds mentally and emotionally mature enough to handle a sexual relationship with someone older but you can't fucking legislate based on something like that. Setting the age of consent at 16 or 18 (yes, it is arbitrary but it's better to set it too high than too low) is good enough. Too much room for manipulation by predators if you set it too low or abolish it altogether.

I think America needs to get its head out of its ass on things like sex issues though and handle it more maturely instead of acting like it's still some taboo in some areas but lowering the age of consent or condoning relationships like that doesn't seem like the right move.
