Is he right? Are you automatically a normie unless you play Yugioh or have a similiar non normie hobby? Cosplay and watching marvel movies or even reading the comics no longer count as being non normie now. Anime is about to cross into the normie arena 100% now. You need something obscure as Yugioh to not be a normie now.

>using Yik Yak
>claims not to be a normie
Fuck off, we're full.
>using NSA yak after the shitty reddit update
Even the normies have abandoned it in droves. I used to trigger normies and nonStem plebs on my Uni's yikyak area with hundreds of votes but now its all gone to shit and everyone stopped using it.

With how expansive the mediums of comics and anime are, I would argue that the hobbies aren't normie by themselves, but rather certain series are. Not too many normies would know or care about something like the maxx or Bakemonogatari.

This is a good point. I'm sure most people who are "totally into anime" will know shit like Attack on Titan or Sword Art online or whatever the new meme show is. Mention something slightly more obscure and suddenly they have no idea what the fuck you're talking about. I've mentioned Trigun to people who claim to be into anime and while it's considered a classic series and is widely recommended on every "babby's first anime series" list they have no idea what it is because they have no knowledge of anime beyond whatever is explosively popular at the time.
I'm normally on /tg/ and it's the same problem there where everyone knows the game Dungeons and Dragons and most are absolutely astounded when they learn that other games exist. D&D is a normie game and has been developed and marketed as such.
