If you come to Europe, you'll have no problem finding a teaching job and you'll swim in pussy for being murrican.
>>
>>35059663
IDK. I have a runner's physique and probably a slight case of the 'tism. Pretty much universally repels women.

Secondly, most European employers seem to require more than the BA+English teaching certificate (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA/ETC) that most Asians employers want.

Personally, I would prefer working in Europe, but it seems like there isn't much demand for candidates with less than a master's degree.
>>
>>35059072
Im teaching in korea right now. There is no long-term future in it. But you dont do it to teach english in private academies forever. Its to give you money, free time, and easy travel to tropical paradises. You should aim to save at least 1,000/mo.

You use your time wisely, save money, and prep for grad school or do a distance program while you work here. Or you network and branch into a field like editing or video games community manager which is more directly transferable to something in another country.
>>
>>35059790
Well I dont know about the other European countries, but here in France we have such a shortage of teachers that pretty much anyone can teach (you just have to pass a shit easy one year course).

Pay isnt great but you'll get insane privileges and vacation time.

And I've seen the ugliest motherfuckers get chicks only because they were from the anglosphere. There's really some kind of an englishfever here.
>>
>>35059898
>Or you network and branch into a field like editing or video games community manager which is more directly transferable to something in another country.

I was thinking of teaching English for a year or two in Korea, then maybe the Peace Corps if teaching English worked out (would only do if I got an assignment in Central Asia, E. Europe, or some Pacific Island), and then apply to grad school. That's a six year plan that would probably get started right before I turn 30. I was thinking of a master's in public administration or something.

This is why I wish I had a business degree. At least I could maybe make the transition into international business. With only a political science degree and no real other skills, I don't see me making a transition into something else while teaching overseas. Does it happen a lot?

>>35059928

>And I've seen the ugliest motherfuckers get chicks only because they were from the anglosphere. There's really some kind of an englishfever here.

My goal at this point in my life is to get do some serious resume building and see some sights. Unless these women are just throwing themselves at these dudes at work or something, I don't see anything really happening for me. I'm not really into clubs or the nightlife scene. That's where foreigners seem to get into trouble anyway.

If you go the esl route, stick to it for 3 years. Use year 1 to get settled and begin building your savings. Also use this time to explore options for a masters degree. In year 2-3 attend grad school/ second bachelors. Use this time to network. If it takes a 4th year, that's okay.

Im leaving after 6 years. I dicked around too much in my first 2 years. It wasnt until year 3 that i took shit seriously and used my time wisely. Now I'm in a much better position than some friends that started teaching when i did.

Im currently studying comp sci, and I hate it. I hate programming, and I'd hate to get a job as a software engineer. dude i have to tell you this, when it comes to computers, a lot of people pretend like it's the only viable career option

think about this man: if you hate computer science now in school, imagine doing it for the next FORTY YEARS, sitting in front of a computer 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for FORTY YEARS

seriously... i have no clue how people just get these random jobs, yet everyone does it. unless you have a degree specifically geared towards a certain job you can realistically get (engineer, computer scientist, doctor), how do people find completely random jobs? how do they even look? how are they qualified?

You could be a teacher, or work in IT.

The thing is that programming is never actually the end goal, but it's the mean to the end. So if you hate programming you'll hate working with computers as a whole because programming is how you do things with computers.

I'm not sure if my point is getting across, basically people who look at "programming" as their job at looking at it wrong, programming is the tool they'll use to do something else in the computer.

At least here in Argentina AFAIK you won't have anyone ask you any questions if you put up ads and go to people's houses or have people come to your house.

But yeah don't actually expect to make dope money, we are talking probably the equivalent of 10-15USD a class per student, maybe 20 if you are good, but the price will vary a lot. Actually being american would probably benefit you in this case. So you'll have to get a lot of people if you expect to live off that. And common sense tells me that it's a better idea to do it in smaller cities where people talk to each other so you get the benefit of word of mouth, rather than in the bigger cities.

Most people do it as a side thing tho, they are actual teachers in a school in the morning and give private classes in their off time.

Not the safest of jobs because well you are basically working out of the system and people mostly look for private teachers near the times of exams, I couldn't give you a good estimate of how many people actually hire private tutors all year round. I don't do it myself so I can't tell you much other than that. It's basically a freelancer kinda thing, you'll have to figure out most of the quirks yourself, but if you wanna be a teacher and don't wanna have to deal with the legal bullshit that's how that usually works.

But if it it's worth anything, I used to have an american private english teacher who was only like 20 and he made enough to live until he went back to the US, so I guess it was working out for him, at least for a while.

i was the same, definitely was into theory a lot, thought i really hated programming. i spent a year in grad school too, but as time went on i realized...i'm always going to hate working, i'm always going to hate my job. this is the reality.
i can tolerate programming though, the working conditions and pay are decent enough, i barely need to talk or interact with other people. until we have the glorious socialist revolution i just don't see anything better i could do

the only bonus is that there is barely any interaction with people and get paid good. how long have you been in the field for?

I'm the guy that poster was responding to.

If you are incompetent, you'd be screwing people over and giving English teachers a bad name by taking advantage of people in countries with no regulations like that.

I have no idea why he gave that response, since I pointed out I have a BA and a EFL certification. I was just complaining about not having the education to find half decent jobs in Europe.

Did your private teacher help, or was it just a waste of money?

uhh well only a year. i spent several as a neet and the one in grad school.
what the fuck else am i going to do, you know? there are no "theory jobs" or anything like that, unless you're in academia or high tech research division, and you're going to be worked to the bone in either

It's actually thanks to him that I can post in Mongolian cooking forums like this.

If you are incompetent you'll be out of a job soon enough, but you'll make a quick buck off the first few poor sods.

Well, at least you tried. I didn't even do that much.
