They're basically left over from that time when early man mainly worshiped plants/animals/nature instead of idolizing himself.

Just ignore them if they're unsettling or if they start screaming or something, they're pretty tame as far as I know. I did recently hear about a Viet family that was ritually feeding a pitcher plant whole chickens, and that they used it to inflict "curses" on people, which came to some form of mental stress.
