I used to drop acid and walk around the city at night. It seemed like an adventure every time, just taking a stroll and seeing all of this weird stuff. Colors and trails flashing around, the lights seeming so bright, etc. Cars seemed like fast moving tanks as they zoomed by. Had to stop doing it because I was afraid of getting mugged but still some awesome experiences.

It's not strictly nightwalk but I drove to a town pretty far from where I usually am today because I've been in a bit of a bad place mentally. Just took a walk and thought this picture would fit the bill.

Sunsets always make me kinda sad, nostalgic, hoping for better times, hoping I can fall in love, hoping I can feel again.

Haven't been coming on this board that often anymore, really glad to see there are still nightwalk threads up.
I walked down to 7/11 at about 1 tonight, it was exremley comfy. Nobody on the roads, no cars, just me.
When i got there the guy at the register was playing some classic rock and just chillin out, I bought some doughnuts and chips and the guy paid for my plastic bag which I thought was really cool.
Comfy night tonight.

Went on a night walk last night and started arguing with myself about the ramifications of my schooling experience from the ages of 3-16.

Key points:
>The state spent more time raising me than my parents
>Altruism built from Church school was a disaster for me, self-sacrifice and wanting to be crucified as a child was very unhealthy in hindsight
>I inherently disagree with modern curriculum, neither prepares anybody to be a citizen nor an asset to their immediate local economy

Was more frustrating than relaxing after I was done.

You have to be a bitch to get that scared unless you live in some kind of literal ghetto. I live in a really working class place where there's a lot of people with drug issues, mental health problems, etc, there's an alley right by my place called crack alley. I'm a woman and never really gotten hurt in years of nightwalking. I've done it in a lot of areas I haven't really known well either, including small towns in the southern US where you are supposed to worry about Mexican kidnappings. Just learn how to handle yourself and keep an eye on people and stop being a pussy so that you can do the things you want to do in life.

Well it's the middle of the day here so no I haven't gone back from a nightwalk but I am on my way for my day walk.

Even though the streets and sidewalks are full of ice or ankle-deep shitwater, I still strap on some boots and go for a walk everyday.

I especially like my "night time" music. I also like the fact that I don't have to wear sunglasses to cover my face as I don't want to make eye contact with people.

>>35034542
No one's going to rob you as you're walking around the streets. Like this guy said: >>35031166

Criminals hang out near sketchy ATMs or rob high school kids at a bus stop. They know that no one is going have anything worth stealing on them at night when there's even less people to steal from.
>>
>>35034698
but that's part of the fun though, seeing all the normies fall over ass backwards into a puddle of their own urine.

I would take the bus downtown and just go for a walk up and down the busiest street at night just to get lost in the crowd. My dad thought I was going out with friends haha

idk what time it is where you live if you're a britbong or something but here it's real afternoon hours. Unifags are probably still in class and NEETS have barely just woken up. Not the best time to have a nightwalk thread.

Anyways, pic is of my usual path. Pic was taken during the summer.

I like how it cuts through a cross section of industrial and residential areas that is apparently entirely populated by Chinese people. There is a constant smell of curry and other spices flowing through the air at all times and there's always a bunch of Chinese people walking around.
>>
QUESTION FOR ROBOTS

/nightwalk/in

A) A nice warm summer night

B) calm silent snowy night

Why?
Id say a summer night just because i dont like wearing a lot of layers. Unfortunately you do see a lot more people in the summer so thats kind of a minus.
>>
>>35035051
I think that B is peak comfyness, the think is it doesn't snow much where I live currently.
>>
>>35034445
I haven't been out on a nightwalk since college, but I used to do it once a week or so when I couldn't sleep. There is some illogical mix of danger and serenity that combines into a perfect relief for anxiety.

Some tips:
>cross the street if you see anyone suspicious
>parks are an awesome place to walk
>dont bring valuables
>It's not as dangerous as it feels
>>
>>35034374
It's so weird seeing places you haven't been in years, and how different they can look and feel at night or in poor weather.
>>35034698
The people are part of the fun at night walks. You always see interesting people at night when you do see them.
>>35034678
Maybe taking walks late would give you some nice time alone to your thoughts, with fresh air, even if it can't fill a void. I always find doing risky/impulsive things is nice when I'm feeling down or bored too, and night walking is a little dangerous at times.
>>35034850
>not waking up at 2am to do your nightwalks
Early morning hours are the best, late night to early morning. I don't know how some people can like one but not the other.

I love to go to malls and busy urban areas before any of the shops have opened or people are out, they're such ghost towns. Mall at 6am is awesome.
>>35035051
I like both of those for different reasons but I'll take winter so that I can give myself stage 1 frostbite before going back home. I love getting to where I'm dizzy and staggering, and my hands are red and a little stiff, but there's not yet any risk of permanent damage.
>>
>>35035220
I like the feeling of being able to just lie down anywhere and be comfy just because of the warm air
>>
>>35035051
Snowy nightwalks are the comfiest feeling in the world.
>>
>>35035265
I do the same in winter. I like to make snow angels in the path I posted >>35033869, on the grassy bit on the right there's piles of snow lately. I'll go to the midnight corner store, sit and eat ice cream somewhere nice at -20 C on a whiteout blizzardy night and dip it in the white fluffy snow. You can lie down, sit, be comfy anywhere in winter too, at least if you can enjoy the comfiness of feeling like you'll freeze to death.
>>
>>35035381
I dont like feeling im gonna freeze to death i prefer to feel like im gonna have a heat stroke
>>
anyone tried night cycling?

Cant wait for spring when it starts getting lighter earlier and I can cycle around my town at 3-4am and watch the sunrise at ~5am

it also serves as a safety precaution in case you run into some niggers or homless peoeple

I know it's fucking autistic and weird, but I like to think that person's life is made a little more interesting by seeing me, and they have a fun story to tell their friends. One time a car full of girls pulled up next to me and offered me a ride but I turned them down so they threw water balloons at me. That same night, a guy ran with me and offered me some of his booze and asked if I wanted to go hang out at a local bar with him.

I love the night.

Used to live a few blocks from pic related park (not my pic). Would fill up a water bottle with rum and coke and walk down there at night and sit on the hill and watch the yachts go by. Something about the little flashing lights on the boats going by in front of the city was very comfy. Moved several miles away a few years ago and haven't been back at night since.

Would anyone be interested in a group nightwalk if one were to be run in your area?

If yes, would you also be up for it to be themed? e.g. just listening to night sounds / walking by water / looking in peoples houses / also drinking or smoking etc etc

I walk alone but sometimes I think it would be good to walk with someone else, along their route.

I'd say start a blog / tumblr or something. Wordpress is okay

What would you be after that a normal blog wouldn't be able to provide? A community? maps? comfy web space?

around my area (and probably in most areas) group night walks would just attract too much attention and probably the police. I always walk alone and wouldnt mind going in pairs with someone but anymore than 2 is asking for trouble

Summer, hands down.

During summer I don't have to bother with wearing 3 layers of clothes and heavy sock with boots and don't have to worry about slipping on some ice and breaking my knee or shattering my teeth on the pavement of some bike path or alleyway.

Even during the warmest summer nights, it's at least relatively cooler than during the day, and everything feels more alive during summer.

>>35035715
Not him but it is nice because the people that you DO see obviously aren't normies in a way. Depending on what time of night or early morning you're likely to see jogging addicts, regular old drug addicts, Chinese people out doing midnight moonlit tai chi, stoners, fat drunk chicks stumbling around willing to suck your dick, other autist loners, etc.

>>35035873
>group nightwalk

nope. I don't mind and kind of like seeing who I cross on my night path, but having to walk with someone defeats the purpose. I just want to listen to my night music and walk underneath the orange street lights by myself, not having to force conversation with someone.

Things I love about /nightwalk/

* sounds. I dont listen to music, instead I open my ears and listen to whats around me. Last time I heard owls hooting, bats screeching. traffic is less noisy. if its early you can hear people in their houses.
* Smells - certain plants only smell nice at night (to catch bugs I guess) but the smell of the place is completely different. Ive seen owls in trees and urban foxes mooching around.
* Sights - lots of people leave their lights on and curtains open - you can view inside their lives. Water and lights on water is so relaxing.
STARS! seeing the stars.

There is something about the anxiety too. I only have a few quid on me, and no phone.

Sometimes if its after 4am you get early risers, joggers and dog walkers.

cars - only cars on the road after 2am are taxis. I like to count the non-taxis on one hand.

nightwalk in urban centres is interesting - drunk people, or noisy bars and quiet streets.

How to enjoy walking alone outside?

Even whilst travelling to the other side of the world in lovely weather (california) and walking along the long mostly-empty beaches make me feel incredibly alone.

Nightwalks amplify that loneliness for me.
>>
>>35036363
I feel more alone in a group of people.

Being alone with nature, in the outdoors is liberating in a way. Its almost spiritual but its the opposite - its natural. Dont wear earphones, just focus your awareness outside, listen and look around you.

At least, that's what I do.

Generally, walking helps me sort out my issues. I need to be walking around 30 minutes to get into a kind of rhythm, and then I let my mind wander off and think about stuff and it helps sort things out.

I find that countryside walking with navigating stiles and avoiding poo is too mentally draining for this kind of thinking. Instead I like walking on the road, along streets.
>>
>>35036363
Also...is being comfy the same as enjoyment?

I think its a kind of contentment, safety rather than happiness and exhilaration.
>>
>>35036454
>Generally, walking helps me sort out my issues. I need to be walking around 30 minutes to get into a kind of rhythm, and then I let my mind wander off and think about stuff and it helps sort things out.

I do agree that after a certain amount of time walking, I often start to feel better about myself physically and mentally.

I guess living in anxiety and worry prevents the loneliness from dissipating

My 2 cents, when walking outside either durng the day or at night or with or without music, the first 20 minutes or so are always a bit anxious.

It's like meditation, well it IS a form of meditation actually. At first you'll have all sorts of thoughts and concerns flying through your head and after those pass through you might get random flashbacks of embarrassing or regretful memories but then after that once you get into a rhythm you'll just find a clarity and peace of mind, and for the reminder of you walk it just feels great. I usually go for an hour and 15 minutes, hour and a half.

biking sounds great. Do you bring lights with you or just hope you don't hit any big potholes unexpectedly?

In winter, I cross country ski at night. The city has some trails that usually cost money during the day, but after dark there is no one to stop you. On a cloudy night with cloud cover and a crescent moon it is bright as day and not scary at all. You can hear owls and other birds, observe a deer family, or watch the squirells jump between trees.

I brought a normie friend once and I think he understood the tranquillity of the experience. For a little bit anyway. After that he started talking about how great it would be to bring his grillfriend along. I couldn't argue with him, but I did feel lonely for the rest of that night.

all the time, from spring to very late fall at least. It's especially nice during summer when it's not overbearingly hot and you feel the cool summer night breeze going through your hair.

>>35037214
Not him but I usually take the same route as I do during the day so I know where all the bumps and potholes are

One times I decided to go downhill on a very steep path and realized that I didn't check the path earlier that day for like broken bottles or tree branches or anything, so like an idiot I went speeding down it with one hand on my handlebars and another holding up my phone with the flashlight app turned on. I could've eaten shit and ended up in the hospital.

Since then I always bring one of those L-shaped flashlights you can clip onto a backpack's straps or your collar.

ill start with probably the one that creeps me out the most, then a funny one

scary one...
>monday night 2am(ish)
>walking down a quiet main road between town centre and retail park
>all of a sudden notice a guy leaning in a dark corner by a wall and a phone box
>made me jump but he was no harm at all, just drunk and/or high
>actually giggle because he looked a bit like Kip from Napoleon Dynamite because of his mustache
>carried on with my nightwalk with nothing strange happening
>next day....see the news, last night police were called just after 2am to the area i was in
>someone got beaten into a coma by 2 guys
>later that day a pic of the victim...it was the guy who looked just like kip
>i was possibly a few minutes away from getting beaten half to death

this one makes me laugh when i think back..

>middle of the night as usual
>walking past a huge gym/sports complex
>hear sounds from the huge bins they have at the side, notice a crackhead going through them
>keep my head down, try not to get noticed and walk past the complex
>all of a sudden, a fat security guard comes out of one of the front doors and wobbles his way over to the bins
>"OI, WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOURE DOING? GET OUT OF THERE"..said security fatty
>crackhead:fuck off m8 or ill kick you in the balls
>security fatty:ill kick you in the fucking balls first you little prick
>crackhead:no you wont ill kick you in the fuckin' balls first m8
>i wonder off down the street into the night, listening to the 2 retards threatening to kick each other in the balls for a quarter of a mile

That's how I feel about sunrises. I usually greet them after an all night study session, after walking home from a party and in many other cases where I just zone out of my life and find myself in the middle of a sombre reality, conveying a sense of "No matter what you do, no matter the decisions you make, whther your impact on society is big or small, the world will go on. Another day will rise and fall like it alw<ys has been."
It's both a terrifying and a liberating feeling. To know that you are one of many and that in the end, all you will ever have is you.

Time waits for no one.
