I don't think that's true. I pray all the time that God will be merciful to people in their dying moments so they can get into heaven even if they lived a life full of bad choices. My favorite people to pray for are Hitler, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, and everyone on /r9k/. Probably no one else is praying for them so they need all the help they can get.

If God is real, that means heaven is real. I want to be friends with everyone on /r9k/ in heaven. I hope that by my prayers that God will come to anons in their dying moments not as a just judge but as a merciful savior so that everyone can come to heaven with me even if you lived your whole life doing terrible things to other people. God would probably prefer it if people mended their lives while they still had some life in them instead of on their deathbed so that they could do good things for others with their lives, but most of all I think He just wants to have a lot of friends to spend eternity with in heaven and wants people to get there any way they can. I consider myself very devout actually, I have absolute faith that God is real. I was just trying to explain myself in a way that makes sense to others. I was not trying to present a logical argument so much as just explaining my thoughts in a way that hopefully might make sene to people who don't believe or know anything about God. Maybe it didn't work.

The way I see it, if God is real and I believe in God, I gain everything when I die. If God is not real and I believe in God, it's all nothingness anyway, but I lived the best and most fun life. I love helping people and fighting demons.

I'm Roman Catholic and I believe that God is really present in the Eucharist. So for me church is necessary because it's an opportunity to see God physically present every week, not just ephemerally in the sense that He's everywhere. Sometimes I go to daily mass and Eucharistic adoration to spend even more time with Him. I don't go to church for the community with other people, my church is mostly just full of old people. It's to be with God and rest in his peace.
Churches are very peaceful places, especially when they're almost empty and you can sneak in the back and just be alone in the pew by yourelf.

Religion is about how your belief system works. There is other systems at work too. Humans as social animals want to belong and want to feel like they are being cared about.
