Social media gave the technologically illiterate access to the world wide web and information sharing on a mass scale.

It's like giving children access to a miniature replica car. None of them know how to process disinformation, can tell real from photoshop, or even understand how the nano technology and advanced networking of contemporary society give them ultra-easy access to what most nerds had to work hard for back in the day.
