I know this feel. When I first met my gf she told me she was an avid reader. This greatly excited me. Go into her room one day and she shows me her collection of Nicholas Sparks novels, mystery romance novels, demon hunter and vampire books, and her Stephanie Plum series. I'm still with her to this day, but her taste in books is complete shit. I just want a girl to discuss serious literature with. REEEE

>tfw can't fucking read books any more

I used to be able to sit down and read for hours when I was younger.

Years of video games and multi-tabbed internet browsing have completely ruined my attention span.
I read a couple of lines and I find myself thinking about other shit, realising I've just read half a page without paying attention and have to read it again.
>>
>>34950022
Helps if you don't read when you're tired.

If I mess with my sleep so I get patches where I have to fight to keep my eyes open, even if I play a videogame my mind goes off on a tangent instantly, my eyes shut because I'm not paying attention to the game, and I jerk awake 4 seconds later thinking I've been asleep for ten minutes.

It's like super ADD.
>>
>>34947388
That's a great starting point, but yeah YA fiction is literally always split into 5 things: Zombies, Romance, Post Apocalypse, Dystopia, Supernatural.

The real shitty ones manage to cram all of those into one and pass it off as original.

Why would you enjoy reading the same three stories over and over again?
>>
>>34950260
One of the most useless things you learn in high school is how to deeply analyze a book. Trying to find every single little symbol and hidden theme that the author probably didn't even make on purpose. And why?, no reason other then conditioning American youth to believe reading is an unpleasant chore so they won't even consider reading when they don't have to. Another Jewish conspiracy if you ask me. I read because I enjoy it, to further my reading skills, and to learn. I don't give a single rat's ass what this or that character's cock represents.

Most modern "good" books are literally about nothing but pretentious wank and trying to make people feel as miserable as the Author.

Go a couple hundred years back and focus on the classics instead of whatever jewy postmodern bullshit people are parroting interest in for social points nowadays

Don't delude yourself- you want a cute gf, reading is just a bonus.
Even among my more "cultured" male friends, they all dated girls who never got being harry potter or 50 shades of grey.
Men never cared about those things in women and in case you actually start dating- I can assure that you wont care too.

You really think "also likes books alot" is a quality most men trip over to date? It really isnt, especially compared to looks, how well you can flirt or even how well you dance.

I have no chance of dating /lit/ nerds since hardly any live in my country.

I know many men and although its nice to talk about literature with some of them, they really dont see it as an important quality (even avid readers).

Yeah it has a great aesthetic and mood, have you looked into Orthodox Christianity at all? The parts of it you liked are very strong in it as Dostoevsky was very Christian.
Unlike most of the people grappling with nihilistic ideas he actually had knowledge of what the Truth and solution was.
Here is a book you might be able to appreciate http://docdro.id/SlxAMji it's pretty short but I really would highly recommend you look at it, gives a very different perspective from what most people are exposed too.
>>
>>34955823

What's wrong with that? Do you only watch high brow movies?

Many people read and watch for the purpose of enjoying the story. Being transported into a different reality and seeing the plot turn out.

Not everything has to be thought-provoking and Freudian.
