Not all of them. Even countries like Italy, which are objectively shirking their responsibilities under NATO guidelines (only 1% of the GDP towards defense, disgusting), are still making a valuable contribution to the alliance as a whole, just by virtue of the sheer size of their combined economies. The EU has a GDP greater than Russia, China, and Iran combined. Even if they only contribute a grand total of 1% of their combined GDP to the military (which they don't, it's higher), that would probably be enough on its own. The US is just insurance.

This really isn't fair. Ever since NATO was founded, the understanding has been that if the Russians were ever to attack, the people of Central and Southern Europe would almost certainly suffer worse than the Americans. Look at American warplans for "Operation Dropshot" and "Able Archer", it was basically a given that Germany would be a giant crater. That's why the US and Canada contribute more financially to the alliance. Our necks, in general, aren't on the line in the same way the Europeans' are.

People who say "taxation is theft" are basically split into two groups: people fully aware of the implications of a society with no public funds (presumably very rich people or simply bonafide anarchists), and people who just don't like paying taxes and think things would be fine without them.

I'm not sure which group is more absurd. It's like trying to distinguish between statist socialists and libertarian socialists, one way or another they're absolutely bonkers.

Taxation is not theft because the very idea of property depends on an impartial enforcement apparatus which by definition has to be a non-private entity with the ability to exercise force, i.e. a government. If you want your property rights, you need to submit to taxation, otherwise the entire concept of property breaks down. Consider the Anarchist slogan "property is theft." This makes no sense because the very idea of theft depends on the idea of property. The more right-wing slogan, "taxation is theft" fails for very nearly the same reason; the very idea of theft depends on taxed-funded institutions. The logic requires a few more steps in the latter case but it's ultimately analogous.

But in the realm of speculation it's not crazy to think that maybe women-run governments would be more peaceful than male ones, being that women are less violent than men in informal social structures, and we know that male violence in informal settings carries over into formal male-dominated power structures (governments). I'm not saying I can prove this would be the case, just that it's reasonably plausible.
