Moles will bite off the heads of worms to immobilize them and store the worms in crevices inside their burrows to keep the worms alive long enough for them to eat later when they are hungry. Moles will store up over 1,000 worms in their preserves. Sometimes the worms will regrow their heads and crawl away. If that worm successfully escapes and and reproduces, its offspring will learn how to detect nearby moles and escape before getting captured by a mole.
