there is no place far enough from any city that would give the impression of true solitary and being out in the woods. best I have is some flat boring forest where you can still hear cars nearby.

I hike at least a section of the Pacific Crest Trail every year. This year I'm going for the whole thing, Mexico to Canada. It's all I'm looking forward to. I hate being here around people and buildings and society and infrastructure and jobs and machines and noise and business and everything screaming at me constantly all the time.

I love camping, hate cold weather though. I camp all across the burger West Coast when it's warm. Winters I generally stay bunkered inside my cabin and keep throwing wood on the fire.

I used to do it a lot when I was around 9-13 insomniac fucko

I camp in the Cascades all the time where you can literally hear the forest humming angrily at certain points. And I'm one of those people who tends to attract them. After a while you just learn how to deal with it. Long sleeves and pants, face net, gloves if necessary, spritzes of 100% DEET repellent on your clothes every few hours. Also cigarettes if you're into that kind of thing. It is a shame when you're camped next to a beautiful lake or something but can't be outside your tent without getting swarmed, though.

I live to go camping in the Hill Country in Texas, especially in Camp Wood, but only for a weekend. Just to swim and sunbathe. Of course I carry with me a rugger pistol just in case.
