For non-weebs or those that just aren't aware Valentines day works much differently in Japan than in the west.

On Feb.14th (or the closest non-weekend day to it) young women give the men they like dark chocolate to show their affection.
A month later there's a holiday called "White day" where the guys have to give white chocolate to all the girls who got them chocolate.

If you don't do this you're considered an asshole. Yes, you have to do this even if you don't like the girl.
Yes, you have to buy chocolate for EVERY girl that gave you chocolate.

Naturally a lot of men hate these holidays because what ends up happening is one or two guys get chocolates from a majority of girls and the rest get nothing.
So the losers are bummed that no one likes them and the hot guys are pissed that they have to waste 5000 yen on candy next month.

It's interesting. I kind of like the idea of valentines day in japan. The ideal of white day really kind of makes it nice? Like valentines day the guy buys everything and the women don't do shit. With this they actually have to put in some minor effort to be the one taking the lead.

Regardless, valentines day as a whole is a scam anyways. It's a day for a bunch of idiots to get a fake date and pretend they aren't alone, and the real couples are supposed to celebrate their relationship. But honestly the real people in real relationships should be celebrating their relationship and their declarations of love often and not only one day a year.
