Years ago,I had a lady friend who accompany me to all sorts of places. We were friends,had a fairly good time together, and managed to go to events and places neither one of us would attempt alone. The dates would end with a hug,and we'd go our separate ways. I never attempted to try kissing her beyond our first time,and that was half heartedly offered and soundly rejected,but we enjoyed each other without more than companiable handholding. I'd go home and whack off as usual, so it was almost a relationship. And the fact that she was a chubby South American with a smile like a hamster didn't inspire me to try more. The problem was she was a child psychiatrist, and I worked in a supermarket, so she considered me not on her intellectual plane and had no respect for me. Although undereducated,I have a lightning wit and stores of wisdom many perceive and respect,so I may not be able to diagnose a specific type of crazy,I could at least offer insights to a suffering soul that may help.

So one day we found ourselves at a sci fi con,and in the Con Suite we stumbled across another psychiatrist attending the con. She began talking shop with the guy,which was fine,but every time I tried interjecting a comment,she immediately interrupted me,talking over me in mid sentence. After 5 times in a row,and confusing the poor guy caught in the middle,I managed to shoehorn one observation he found both witty and relevant. Afterwards,I tried explaining my objections to her behavior, saying much of what I wrote here now. And she just told me to drop it. This pissed me off so much that from then on I said I was "busy" any time she would want to hang out,and haven't heard from her in years. No time for such valueless friends.

So it IS possible to hang out platonically with someone,but do it as equals,not orbiters.
