Are Smartphone the single worst invention in the latest 100 years?

smartphones are fine, they have useful things like gps. cameras in phones are a disgrace and whoever thought putting a camera in a phone was a good idea needs to be thrown off a fucking cliff

I have a phone, but don't use it much.

I need to have a computer that I can actually sit down and *do* things on. I don't really understand what people are doing when they're staring at their phones for hours a day.

You only view it as a problem because for some reason you don't have/frequently use a fucking smartphone in 2017.

Just do what everyone else is doing and it'll all be normal.

In 10-20 years we'll be even closer to this technology, desktop computers will basically be defunct, and we'll be beaming around our Holo Pad screens to show our friends cat videos, it'll be the best.

It's a mix of things IMO. I think having things like social media creep into almost everyone's lives is one of the biggest problems facing us today. Remember the old 90s/2000s commercials that would always say to keep your identity private on the internet? Now it's a complete 180 and people have no problem posting every single detail about their lives on some stupid fucking site for literally no reason at all. Adding to the fact that social media is now basically a dick measuring contest full of lies and the most shallow people on the planet, I have no idea how it became so popular as it did. There's no real relationships for the most part on those sites, those thousands of "friends" don't give a shit about you and you'll most likely talk to them once and then move on to the next overhyped thing. I tried instagram for a week and deleted my account because it was basically nothing but those retarded duck face selfies and a bunch of ghetto shit.


I'm not trying to sound like some edge lord but I will never understand the appeal of social media. The day facebook went from college only to everyone is the day things started going downhill at terminal velocity IMO.

I like it. I can use it to check the time and I can keep a schedule on it rather than having to write everything down in a notebook. I can download PDFs so I don't have to print off notes all the time and I can read books when I'm away from home. I can take pictures of things, like if I go to the library and want a page from a book but don't need the whole book I can just take a picture of it, plus I can take pictures of nice scenery and things like that. I don't have to stand around awkwardly trying not to look autistic (I've been told I do) when I'm waiting outside, I can just look at pretty pictures on my phone and pretend to be texting like a normie so I blend in. Also now I can do stuff like stopping to think about something when I'm walking, since I can stop and pretend I'm checking something on my phone, while in the past I'd have to keep walking to not look weird.

Basically it's both convenient and acts as a normalfag cloak. Maybe they've screwed up communication like you say, but that hardly affects me.

Everyone need to show that they are doing something while at same time they need to know what everyone else is doing so they don't get left behind.
And everyone can fit in... Look at us ! Anywhere else we would be circus attractions but here its 24/7 contest who's the biggest looser. It never ends, when one goes to sleep another one wakes up. Its like you are surrounded with friends all the time, and while someone would interpret that as a great thing, its actually HELL.
So once you realize that you leave... You type new address and set sail on wast oceans of knowledge that internet is. But the waters are shit murky and diving in them leaves diarrhea taste on your mouth. You learn nothing, you waste time, you loose money, you loose confidence and the pressure boils up.

I would say that the smartphone has had a very negative impact on human life. It has made people less human, we no longer interact in a natural way with each other. It has given everyone ADD, no one can seemingly focus for more than 5 seconds before they have to check their phone. It's pretty pathetic how people are ruled by their devices. Retarded social media like snapchat just makes the whole thing that much worse.

No I'm not joking. Germany did a lot of great things for society, community and people in general in those years. People were social, camaraderie was promoted, people bonded, people learned useful stuff. Obesity was practically unheard of and only rich women got "fat" or plump.

Imagine a boy scouts / boy girls organisation heavily promoted for kids 10-18 where they went on government funded picnics, sang songs, did sports, made friends, did community / charity work etc etc.

Lots of people are glued to their phones all the time. even during mid conversation. Someone will put out a phone on me and start texting. It's annoying and rude.

Personally, I only pull out my phone when I'm bored. Like on my break at work, or waiting in an office. I play games on it though, I don't text since I have no one to text. Kinda sad to be honest.
