I've noticed the same thing.
Went out on a date with a beautiful opera singer, we had common interests, we were both classical musicians, everything seemed to go well. When I sent a text after the date to follow up she never responded.
Went on a date with a girl who turned out to be fatter IRL than I had originally thought. She's all interested in me, kisses on the first date, but I can't bring myself to be attracted to her. She sends me a follow up text, I ignore it.

Problem is, when I ignore girls I find attractive, they also ignore me back, but I don't want to bone someone I'm not attracted to. It's hard to not care about what someone thinks when you become infatuated with them, though.
