Well I think you're correct that monogomy is an evolutionary adaption to give some females an advantage, I think your whole theory starts to unravel when you also think males are evolving counter strategies or even evolving at all. Natural selection is no longer in effect for male mating patterns when there is a small pool of chosen males mating with a larger pool of females which happened historically. Children have to be created, raised right and taught how to work hard for their parents, whose place and assets they take when they are too old. The legacy and family line is upheld by strong bonds of kinship. Monogamy has provided the only basis for this end, but is coming more and more to be questioned in this era of extreme individualism. We are forgetting things such as legacy and family, we focus mainly only on ourselves and the means to achieve our fleeting, vacuous pleasures.
