Anime is idealized, and its poison to watch.

We live in a culture where escapism into fantasy is shilled more than any other time in history. We are obsessed with it these days.
So many movies, tv shows, video games, the internet, etc.

It's not like in the old days where it was deal with reality and maybe read a book every so often.

When we escape into fantasy, the real world inevitably looks shit in comparison. It's like a drug. It feels good to partake in it, but you come crashing down hard.

Our escapist culture is partially responsible for the depression epidemic.

Anime is idealized to a hilarious degree.

I recently watched an anime where the main character (who is of course, a goofball everyone loves) spends 10 MINUTES talking to a little adoring girl (who is in a maid uniform) going on about all his self doubts, and his neuroses, and self pitying drivel about how his life is shit and all he needs is some woman to dote on him.

The loli maid then spends the next 10 minutes telling him he is a special snowflake and patting him on the head and telling him all the sweet bullshit these modern day anime watching betas want to hear and how she wants to be his girlfriend and be an emotion crutch to him for the rest of his life. It must be like porn to otaku to hear all that.

It gets even more rediculous, because he turns her down (he's chasing after an even more hyper idealized stereotype) and do you know what the loli maid's response is to that?
"Of course. I am fine with that and I will support you and be your replacement mommy while you throw yourself into self destructive pursuits"

Fucking awesome.

Do you think a conversation like that would ever happen in real life?
I couldn't help but laugh at the whole thing.
When I saw that, I just thought "I've seen this before" (though this time, it was hilariously exaggerated and had no subtlety)
It's something that happens in anime a lot because anime is pandering to people who want to immerse themselves in fantasy and withdraw from the world.
It's present a highly sanitized form of social interation, which is racked with misunderstandings and friction. It's a plastic world they live in.
