Let's see how smart the average robot is.
There's only one right answer.
>>
6 right?

Original1337$:
>>
1+2 = 3

6/2 = 3

3 x 3 = 9

So the answer is 9.

1, idiots.

Its 1.

Try this question.

Show that the sequence sigma n = 1 to infinity of An = (Fn+1)/Fn where Fn is the Fibonacci sequence either converges or diverges.

I got 1, but some egghead will probably come on here acting like the ultimate authority on math and tell me I'm wrong.

I don't think a single thing on the planet brings out worse behavior than math questions on the internet.

You have to get rid of the brackets first, so do the multiplication. Fucknuckle.

no you fucking retard you have to do what is inside the parentheses first, not eliminate them. what shit tier bible belt state did you learn 5th grade math from

PEMDAS order of operations is implied parentheses, which is inherently wrong. Actual functional math uses real parentheses.
>>
6/2*(1+2)
6/2*3
3*3=9
Anything wrong with this logic? It would be 1 if 6/(2*(1+2))

It's intentionally ambiguous.
I'm apparently not very smart since I refused to go along with the joke and pointed out the obvious even though everyone knew it.
Right?

Diverges by series divergence test.

Limit as n approaches infinity doesn't equal zero.

Limit as n approaches n [c * f(x)] is the same as c * limit as n approaches [f(x)]

So 1/F * limit as n approaches infinity of [(Fn+1)/n].

Divide by n to get F + 1/n.

Limit as n approaches infinity of F is F.

Limit as n approaches infinity of 1/n is 0.

1/F(F+0) = 1

Hey I get it. It's clever because answer to OP's question was 1.

>>34767569
9 or 1, needs more parentheses
>>
>>34767741
Nope. That's correct.

In the order of operations, you always solve what's in parentheses first, then you go from left to right.
>>

everything else is wrong

not even sure how that wasn't original
maybe because this baity thread has already been posted?
>>
>>34767836
That's the right answer, but some people read it as:
https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=6%2F(2(1%2B2))%3D
Which is wrong since there are no brackets around 2(1+2)
>>
>>34767833
.... Anon, Fn isnt two variables, it's the sequence F's of n which stands for the fibonacci sequence. F's of n + 1 would be the number after F's of n in the fibonacci sequence

Sorry for bad notation.
>>
>>34767569

It's a trap for morons

That division symbol is highly ambiguous and the problem could mean a few things. Are we dividing 6 by the 2 or the product of 2(1+3)? Are we multiplying (1+3) by 2 or the result of 6 divided by 2?

Strictly speaking, the parenthesis combined with the division symbol imply separation and that the 2 is a denominator to the 6, ergo (6/2)(1+2) would be more correct than 6/[2(1+2)].

As far as PEMDAS, it's a retarded thing that stops mattering past 8th grade because PEDMSA is perfectly acceptable.

how is that clever? also proving that the sequence converges to 1 and not 0 means that the infinite sum sigma{an}=a1+a2+a3... diverges.
also the answer to op's question is 9 we have not limits here just pemdas.

>arguing over some shit you should have learned in 4th grade

I'm going to shit myself holy fucking niggers

Parentheses have priority always. If multiple parentheses, it goes left to right order.

Then comes exponents. If there are more than one, it goes left to right.

Multiplication and Division are on the same level of priority. Left to right order.

Lastly, addition and subtraction are on the same level of priority as well. Left to right order.

I still can't believe this thread exists
>>
>>34767569
9. Order of operations, son.
>>
any other answer than 9, ur'e a retard. the end
>>
>>34767986
Yes, using a divergence test and having limit of the series as n approaches infinity equal 1 should indicate divergence.

But in the case of the fibonacci ratio, shouldnt it approach the golden ratio while simultaneously showing divergence?
>>
this is actually hilarious keep going lads.

PEMDAS puts M before D, but you're actually supposed to treat them as the same priority, and instead read them from left to right. That's how we get 9.

I know, and it is retarded because people will strictly adhere to multiplication before division rather than working left to right.

Do people actually think about order of operations or why it is that way?

If you actually put even a minute of thought into the concept you will realize that OP is deliberately ambiguos.

It can be 9 or 1 because of how the question is written.
