I never thought I would ever tire of vidya. That was under the assumption that vidya would continue to evolve at the pace it did during my prime vidya days (~1990-2005). It didn't. I moved over to complicated strategy games and very difficult platformers. That worked for a while. But thrill was gone. New consoles come out, same old stuff. Same old stuff rehashed and somehow made WORSE than it was to begin with.

I stopped playing. Still watched vidya related streams for a while. Bought some games and then didn't play them once. At this point my only connection to vidya still remaining is to listen to a couple vidya related podcasts at work. I don't care about the games anymore but I am somewhat attached to the people who do the podcast.

As for what filled the gap, other hobbies. Expensive grown up adult hobbies. Like making furniture out of wood. I never thought I would be in the market for a table saw but here we are. I will have a proper dad workshop in garage if I am ever able to afford a house that has a garage. Also I am fucking pissed off about the real estate market.

i'm a failed punk/normie. got tired of working mcjobs to sustain the apartment and drinking so i quit both. i've moved back in with my parents. i'm 2 years into a stem degree. the classes and parents are hell but this feels like my best shot at true financial independence. it'll be one less thing for my to stress about and i'm looking forward to it.

right now there's a hole in my heart that i'm filling with career related stuff but that will plateau by the time i'm 30.

in the past few years, i'd been plagued with existential dread but recently i've been shrugging them off as wastes of energy. surprised myself, really. i thought i would be in that mental state for the rest of my life.

which leads me back to the question: what ways have you guys come to terms with living? in what ways do you still yearn?

Of all the hobbies I have tried over the years, the ones that stuck and continued to be rewarding all involved building things. Useful things. Not art or music. I mean unless you're really an art or music kinda guy. I went to school for art (drawing) absolutely hate it now. Anyway, if you learn to build stuff you can continue to use in future, rather than just look at, that's a hobby that has legs to it.
