The mannered person does it because it is expected of him: he is meeting minimum human social requirements, and there is no reward expected. The fedora thinks "oh boy, if I do all these behaviors, I will surely get a gf" instead of "I must do what is right".

You don't really in one single action. As a polite person, you say thanks and go on with your own business. You're not there to judge him or interact with him much past that.
The fedora tipper will have other behaviors beyond just holding doors open and anyone who has a closer relationship with him than walking through a door will probably pick up on his mannerisms/mentality pretty quickly. I'd guess he'd also be more likely to become angry and start an argument over being taken advantage of/not being appreciated if he does x polite behavior enough times without any reward beyond the standard "thankyou" because he feels he is exceptional in doing them ("not like the other guys"), instead of standard.

If men hold doors open for me I don't think much about it beyond saying thanks. I hold doors open for men also. Not a big deal. I've only known one person who was made insecure by me, a female, holding a door open for him, a male, and he is a very unhappy person who eats his feelings to obesity and yells at video games, tells other people to kill themselves, etc.

but you have to analyze yourself, your reactions, and realize you are not really that different/special/better than anyone else. it will vary from person to person what specifically they need to alter/stop doing, but in general focusing on being calm, kind, and humbled is likely to work against a lot of the previous negative behaviors. it is always nice to tell yourself that you do love everyone, even if you don't understand them and may treat you in ways you don't understand, that may appear unkind (or even be unkind, because they are struggling too).
