I've made this thread here once before, but I feel it could use another go.

This is an answer for all Robots and NEETs out there looking for a road to redemption, fitness, and a job. I'm talking about the military.

Now let me start off with this. I have no vested interest in you joining. Not patriotism, nor do I get a pay raise. I'm a lower enlisted (E-4 in the Army for those of you in the know.)

My time so far has gotten me a decent chunk of change, a 401k set to trigger at 60, and my nursing license. It's also gotten me friends, improved my hygiene and health, and helped me to overcome my fears and insecurities, I know where you all are at and can help.

I am no Chad, and still live some of the struggles, but things are better now, and here's how they can be for you ... details in next post.

You're going to start with your local recruiting station, if your parents are cool with you or are service members talk to them, they may be ecstatic or they may be against it.

If they're against it go around them, fuck it, you're 18 right?

Now the next choice is the branches, I know Army most of course since I'm in it. But I've heard overall Navy and Air Force is easier for your initial basic training, but harder to get promoted in.

Either way, avoid Marines and Coast Guards, jarhead life is fucked up and the C.G. are the running gag of the whole service.

Once you get to the recruiter ask to take a practice ASVAB, this is the standardized test that chooses what jobs are available to you, have your high school or uni records on hand, they open up more options, and you'll at least need a High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Once you have an ASVAB either stick with it or retake and retake until you're in the 90s, this opens up the most options. There are books to help if your /dumbfeel/.

Now, once you're good, tell the recruiter you want a bit to research jobs, don't listen to him, he has ulterior motives and will try to put you in a job that he was told needs more strength.

Go back and look at all the jobs for the branch you went to, research and research until you find one for you. Really look into it, go to /k/ or fuck even /r/Mil, find out firsthand. All milfags will tell you exactly how shit their gig is if it is.

For Army, 68 series is a good choice, all Medical, all easy to translate to civilian sector, 68C mine is the nursing one, and you walk away with a license which is golden. Don't go Infantry, Special Forces, 68W (combat medic), 19D (Cavalry Scout) unless you don't give a fuck. Lord knows most robots wouldn't do well in firefights and actual combat.

In the next post I'll cover the difference between "Reserve" and "Active Duty", we're gonna omit National Guard for the sake of brevity.

Okay, so Reserve is showing up to your assigned duty station (more than likely the closest one to your home) for 1 weekend out of the month.

You may not necessarily be doing your job, and for intents you're regarded as dorks by the Active Duty soldiers who get assigned to a random location after job school.

The benefit is you can usually get a pretty nice bonus for signing on as Reserve, I've seen upwards of 20,000 on my buddies contracts in Basic.

If you go Active you can be put most anywhere, from Korea like to me, to Germany, or in state like Washington, if you're unlucky you could end up in one of the worse parts of Texas or Kentucky.

Either way, really deeply consider this choice. Active is the real Mil experience, but Reservists CAN GET DEPLOYED AS WELL. Either way just work this one out on your own based on who you are.

Once you're done they'll send you to a facility, MEPS, to inprocess and take the tests for real, this is where you secure your job and get the first pseudo military experience. Your Recruiter will probably be real nice to you, in MEPS they start treating you like shit to prepare for Boot Camp. Just deal with it.

From there it's a countdown to Basic Training ... before we go there in the next post I'm gonna cover how to prepare for Basic, and what you should do physically before even seeing the recruiter ...

So for the Navy, Air Force, and Army there is a "Physical Fitness Exam" or PT Test.

It consists of 3 events. 2 Minutes pushups, 2 Minutes Situps, and a 1.5 Mile run (2 mile for Army). For most Fatbots and Skinny Fats this will be your major hurdle.

Go to /fit/ read the stickies, start training. For running try and buildup to doing 3 miles without stopping. Continue doing this to build speed.

For pushups and situps do 2 minutes drills where you go until failure, stretch for 2 minutes, and then go for 1 minute 30 seconds, stretch and go for 1 minute, etc until you are only going for 15 seconds.

Practice proper form.

You don't want to be the guy in basic performing like garbage. Train until you can do 60 good pushups, 65 good situps, and run around 15 minutes.

You will look good to your Drill Instructor and will be better off overall. This is one of the biggest ways you are judged. Cut pounds if you need to, but don't fuck your muscle, you will need a decent back and shoulders to lug your gear.

You will have a 12 mile ruck march, don't worry, they prepare you for it. Ask for the ARMY BMI standards from your recruiter, ask him to tape you, wait until your BMI is good not just for recruiting, but for staying in, this will cost you extra hell later ...

Now that rough fitness layout has been covered, I will go over Basic Training and Job School ...

So youre an E-4. What the fuck do you know about the military

Basic Training is just as you expect, but not as bad as it used to be.

You will be shouted at, humiliated, pushed to the brink of stress. It is the hardest thing you will have done in your life, but the easiest part of your career. Make sure loved ones send letters, treasure phone calls, keep a diary.

People will dissect you in the 60 man open bay, they will find all the things you hate about yourself and try to hide, this is natural. They will question your walk, your posture, your voice.

But some will find a brotherhood with you, you will carry them forward, as they will for you, you will make friendships that are there until the day you die. A man gave me five minutes of our 10 minute phone call because my plan got fucked, in return I wrote a letter to his mom because he was borderline illiterate, we remained friends the whole time and still talk to this day 2 years later.

You will have to learn a rifle, listen to everything your Drill Sergeant or Instructor says, just do. They will build you up and have you making targets at 300 meters and disassembling and reassembling the thing in under a minute.

Listen to everything they say, never ask questions, never talk back, always respond with a "Tracking Drill Sergeant" or "Yes/No Drill Sergeant", do not take a tone or roll your eyes.

You will fuck up, people in the bay will be mad, be prepared for this, but if you build up enough good will and work hard, you will survive.

Once you are done you will feel a pride that is unmatched. From there you will be onto job school, work hard, continue to workout, study hard, don't just drink the nights away.

In the end you will have training, skills, and the respect of the civilian populace. You will have better conversation skills, things to discuss.

You will be able to show up to any job you go for when you get out with the benefit of having served.

I truly believe this could save so many robots out there. If you have questions I'll stay on this thread.

Everything he's posted, are you retarded?

That I was a robot and a NEET 3 years ago, and that the experience has overall made my life better, and I feel it could do the same for others.

I have not deployed, I have not seen combat. You can disregard everything about this thread if you want. I just think it's an option people here don't consider.

It's better than pissing in jugs and wallowing away the day.

There are regardless ways to get this information. Go to your local Veteran's Hospital, go online to sites where vets and those currently serving communicate.

I wish people more experienced than me came to shitholes like this, but they don't.

I'm not overall saying it's the perfect experience. You are signing away years of your, and multiple rights, especially if you're active duty.

I'm not pretending it's perfect. Regardless nothing I've layed out is disingenuous.
