treat yourself to the best - go to a shop that sells sailing rigging, and get some yacht braid. it's high strength but doesn't chafe much. it is sold by the foot, normally. don't get it too thick or it will be difficult to set the noose.

i'm not going out with a rope, but if i did, that's what i would use.
