I grew up in foster care and my adoptive parents always threatened to take me back if I didn't act like a slave... or it they just wanted to let some anger out on me.

I have a scar under my eye because when I was 5 we got a puppy, but it ran up stairs and hid under my adoptive parents bed.
I was told if I didn't grab it and yank it out I would be sent back to the foster care agency.
I grabbed it, and it bit me in the face.

Wasn't the worse thing though; they also had me and other foster/adopted kids labeled with psychiatric disorders (they recieved more money AND the complaints of abuse were ignored) and at one point they threw out all of my belongings.

Twice my adoptive mother pushed me down flights of stairs; she was prone to narcissistic rage.

Now that I think about it, it probably does mess kids up when you do things like that. At the end of the day all you're teaching them is to blindly obey you and not question them, which would probably lead to them having a lack of trust for you and any other authority figures in their lives.
