i watched part of a documentary about an indian man who was getting married. they were speaking to older women who were laughing about how in their day, women didn't get an education and had to marry any old shmuck that their parents told them to marry and sit around in the house all day long. they said it's getting better now for women because things are changing and girls are able to have more say over whether they want to marry the man their parents choose. it's probably still more traditional than other places but things are changing everywhere.
