is it stupid that i dont like the us national anthem or any of the kind of music thats played for presidential events? im glad to live in the us but when watchibg the innauguration i asked my mom if people actually liked the national anthem or they just do it for doing it and ahe was like "You should love the national anthem in fact anytime its played your supposed to have your right hand on your heart" (she does that for like ten secobds and then obviously becomes bored of it)
it just seems awkward when it comes on with someone singing and all
Nah your mom sounds stupid tho

The US flag looks kinda ugly too... I love the US, but it's flag and Yankee songs are a bit strange. Just stare at the flag, it looks like a fucking candy cane or barber shop post.

i like it if it's performed the right way, as in the above vid. it sounds shit when performed by a solo female singer as seems to be most common at any sort of gathering
i like other national anthems better though, a few of my favorites linked below

We have a shitty anthem from a user design perspective. It requires a wider vocal range to sing it comfortably than most people have. It also technically has a whole bunch of verses that nobody cares about. An anthem should be easy for the general populace to memorize and sing fully. We have a variety of much better patriotic songs that practically have anthem status already. God Bless the USA or America the Beautiful would be fine. Congress can fix this problem at any time if they want.

Stripes are not all that garish as far as flag decorations go, really. Most flags have two or three horizontal stripes anyway. The 13 stripes are a sensible way to symbolize the 13 original colonies. Also, a the red and white stripes of a barber pole symbolize the clean and bloodied bandages from bloodletting, just as the stripes in our flag symbolize the bandages used in war. This part is less garish than the Union Jack. I don't think that the "stripes" part of the stars and stripes is an aesthetic problem.
The part I have a problem with is the blue field with 50 stars. The number of states changes over time, so the current number of states should not be a part of the flag. A flag should not need to be changed periodically. This part of the flag is a poor design choice for this reason. Puerto Rico should be a state already, and Texas and California should be split up to reduce the problem of excess concentration of power. We don't do this partly because we don't want to change the flag again.
The original ring of 13 stars is more tasteful, and also provides timeless symbolism of the 13 colonies. A circle of stars would symbolize multiple states of non-specific number, all equally valuable as with the Arthurian round table. Or, perhaps, it would symbolize the equality of all US citizens. This would not make our flag the most tasteful in the world, but it would make our flag more tasteful than the flags of the UK and Brazil IMO.
