Why is "success" always equated with the amount of money you make, your career position etc these days?

>these days
It has always been that way because that is the definition of success.

Because "success" is a loosely defined term but wealth and how far up the corporate ladder you are are quantifiable approximations of said success. Much like IQ isn't intelligence because intelligence doesn't have a robust definition, but it's a quantifiable way of measuring something close to intelligence. You can have your own definition of success, and it might be becoming a mountain man and living outside society. Other people won't agree that you're successful but if you internally believe you are then that's what matters. You're thinking of society's definition of successful and it simply is what it is, there's no real "why" beyond consensus.
because money is exchanged for goods and services. because money is the reason why most of the global population works jobs, to purchase these goods and services.

Maybe because money is literally an objective measure of value.
More money = more ways to draw attention to yourself = more people see that you are successful.
Even if monks were the happiest people ever sitting at home, no one would know about it since they just sat at home.

Ask the chosen people who are at the top rulling and making you prep the bull.

Apparently there's studies that show that those hardcore tibetan monk meditate-all-day types are some of the happiest people around.

also I don't understand either, everyone is obsessed with materialism these days it's insane.
People who owns a lot of stuff, dress in nice clothes or have a nice car are looked up to.
But people who see value in things that actually matters like family, KNAWLEDGE and society goes unoticed
But this is what happens what celebrities are glorified the way they are today

Because money is your score on this planet. It's like playing a game and pretending the score doesn't matter when it is what the game revolves around.
And not only that, but it's equated with marketers who don't actually produce anything, and tend to make their living off peddling bullshit products
Like this guy for example, sells worthless "supplements" and "training programs"
And he's far from the worst in the industry

Success is defined by power, influence, relative skill and prestige.
