Does this pic accurately sum up r9k's opinion on how men and women experience depression differently?
>>34586512
a female can only be depressed if she's ugly
>be female
>fail life on easy mode
>>34586512
I always laugh at /r9k/'s pathetic misunderstanding of Notes from Underground
>>34586612
It is from Crime and Punishment.
>>34586612
If you want to sound intellectual then at least get the fucking book right
Idiot
>>34586512
uhh they said pretty much the same thing
>>34586662
The connotations are different. Plath's is a more self-centered description.
>>34586662
No they didn't lol, are you retarded or something?
I would be careful using Sylvia Plath as an example for all women, but with that said I think she's expressing the same sentiment as Dostoevsky, just from a more cynical viewpoint. If Plath asked Dostoevsky if his great men would be happier if they thought less and were more selfish he would agree. That's the whole point of his statement. But even in Plath's case it's impossible for someone with the disposition toward thinking and understanding to shut that part of themselves off, even if it would make them happier.
>>34586512
No, because not all men are like dostojevsky and not all women are like Plath
>>34586678
Sums it up perfectly, they are similar but dostojevsky is more conscientious and plath is more personal also in their writings.
>>34586745
But all women are the same tho?
they literally say the same thing
>>34586512
women in this picture are way more spiritual and smarter, end of discussion you idiots. im a genius i know what im saying.
>>34586816
that is some really low effort bait dude. you can't have terrible grammar and "I'm a genius" in the same post, it makes it too obvious.
>>34586838
nigga please, i dont care about grammar, cuz this language is like 6th in my lexicon.
I initially posted this because Plath wrote an honors thesis about Dostoevsky, and I think that they tackle similar subjects in radically different ways, which perhaps says something about the way men and women experience things differently. I've also personally noticed that sad girls in high school are more attracted to Plath, and sad boys to Dostoevsky (maybe Murakami would be a better choice, but eh).
Anyone have any personal stories that agree/disagree with my hypothesis?
