The soap shelf in the shower should have a weight limit clearly labeled on it or at least some warning to not put your foot on it. They break so easily. It's tempting to use the soap shelf for resting your foot when the bath tub doesn't have a good flat edge.

Those tub soap dishes are the robots of bathroom fixtures. Their very purpose is pointless. Nobody is going to put their soap there because it just gets soaked by the shower and your soap turned into mush. It was a failure from conception to execution.

I prefer to lift my legs when washing them to get them out of the water stream, nice to rest them on a shelf rather than balance on one leg. I've never had OP's problem though, but I only weigh 120 pounds.
