It is basically a form of bullying

same as these other people said, I don't think it really bothers people. It's just cultural formality. It's like how people ask you how you're doing even though they don't care what the answer is and they hope you won't say that you're not doing well because then they will be obligated by western culture and social etiquette to talk to you more than they originally wanted to.

I once got drunk and high and threatened to stab myself with my pocket knife because no girls would talk to me at a high school party. I'm not making that up. I went with a few friends and got super drunk and started complaining about how depressed and lonely I was so I got out a pocket knife and tried to stab myself. My friend stopped me and grabbed the knife. Then he tried to set me up and get me talking with this fat girl and I told her to fuck off and that "i'm gay i like men now".

I'm amazed that I didn't lose any friends after that.

Some people eventually learn to appreciate life. Death is the ultimate end game where everything is finished. I suggest taking care of children or babies and their fragility generally reminds you of the preciousness of life. It's easy to take life for granted when you're in a comfy environment and never in any danger of it being stolen from you.

I can't speak for other people, but since my mom died i realized how big of a hole you rip open when you die. Espacilly your family. I don't want them sitting around the table, reminded that one of the chairs once belonged to you and stuff like that.

I have a theory that a lot of people devalue themselves as they become obsessed with comparing themselves to superlatives. "Well I'm not the smartest, strongest, most X".

As they constantly compare themselves to others, they start to doubt themselves since they're seen as an inferior product.

But this is root of the problem. No person is intrinsically more valuable than another. Some are more specialized and are "the most X". Every life can change at any instant and caring for one another, and showing real compassion is the antidote to this problem.

If there's something or some cause you're interested in, I suggest volunteering your time to it just once a week or month. You'll meet amazing people there who you might like, and even if you're awkward at first they'll accept you because you guys are on the same team. You need to realize people are flawed and no amount of exercise, studying, or beautifying yourself with hide the fact that one day you will lose all of what you have worked so hard to achieve. Your looks will fade, your brain will deteriorate, your muscles will atrophy. We are destined to die. The sooner you accept this the sooner you can enjoy life for what it is. Stop being so hard on yourself and other, do what you can to build yourself and others up.

As a Christian I believe that every vain thing in this world is pointless.
