If I had to hazard a guess I'd say maybe you've gotten an infection or something from a hangnail, you should get it checked out.

You got some fungus my dude, gonna have to go to a doctor and get some shit to dab on there before it starts eating your flesh and they have to cut your toe off.

Ingrown toenail. get better fitting shoes, stop cutting your nail round(let it grow out a little and square off), and talk to your doctor about possible surgery.

I've had issues with ingrown toenails a lot before and usually they just go away after causing me pain for a few days, but I think there are hoem remedies.
