Private schools also tend to be more popular in areas that have bad public schools. Went to school in NY and went to public school. The people that went private were in areas that were considered a part of the poorer school districts.

Here in Britain all schools have uniforms. Same in Japan.

When I was living in Japan I went to an American private school and we had no uniforms. I assumed the only schools in America that would enforce a uniform policy would be religious catholic schools.

LA anon here.

My public middle school had "uniforms" but they were more like a dress code. Everybody had to wear white polo shirts and plain navy blue pants, with the option of navy skirts for girls, but you didn't have to buy official stuff through the school.

My public high school was a free for all with minimal restrictions. (No slutty stuff for girls, no crazy hair styles or colors, no piercings, etc.)
