I actually got off easy, only a minor part of my large bowel was removed. The ileostomy was done in a reversible manner, but it remains to be seen whether I'll recover enough to see it reversed.

I only had it done a week ago, I'm still in hospital. I'm 22. It's fucking disgusting, but... before agreeing to it, I was getting taken into hospital every 2-3 months for recurring abscesses, and this was the only option presented for stopping it.

Ouch, that's harsh especially at your age. Most of our clients are seniors. There's another guy I know that got a huge chunk of his bowels removed because it was 90% sure he was going to get cancer there on top of other hereditary problems.

Don't want to discourage you, but usually once you get an ileostomy you're stuck with it. I do hope they switch you over at some point though, because even though both kinds suck the colostomy is a bit easier to manage.
