What I'm going to do here is travel around the countryside living out of a backpack. I've been an /out/ist since I was a kid, but I've never applied my skills for longer than a week. Japan is a beautiful, safe country so I figured it's ideal for me to test them out.

If you don't have /out/ experience, but want to travel on the cheap, I suggest doing WWOOF, hitchhike, and sleep in hostels. Don't worry about the language barrier, people will bend over backwards in order to be understandable if you're nice and respectful.
