It was a time when we could just be. People were overall happier and more relaxed, rather than the GO GO GO information overload lifestyles we have today.

Take cell phones for example. If that movie took place today, those kids don't have to interact with each other at all. It's less about any individual reaction and more about the cultural/psychological shift in the world around us.
