The culture of this board became popular to emulate ironically and unironically for normalfags to gain attention. Most other common forms of media have tons of shit like pic related from people who have fully functioning lives, successful relationships, and a career. It's fun for them to act victimized and since everyone else is doing it, it attracts other normalfags who are just following trends.

Combine all of that with the fact that this board is, at least in it's most recent iteration, for robots who more often than not failed at life, and you have a place where the public will want to come and try to fit in. They don't realize it's not like reddit, but they try to change it to what they're comfortable with anyway, which means anything that steps over the metaphorical line, they try to tone or moral police.
