Is it just me or has this been the worst start to a year

Nope.

The only friend I had in high school died a few months before 2015 began. From February until May, I drowned myself in alcohol to the point where I was only either drunk or hungover.

2016 wasn't bad. I went to India, Thailand, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and then India again from August until December. With 2017 looming up ahead, all I have to do is find a job, save money for a couple months, and then I'm off to Mexico, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and India; won't be back until next January, at which point I'll resume taking classes and buy a second motorcycle.

Also bought a motorcycle in spring, too. Shit was nice. Only bad part about the year was breaking up with my GF of two years, but life happens.

Had a really tight job for a couple years. Now I'm unemployed for the first time in ages but still make about $1k/month from freelance writing gigs.

I'm just applying for a ton of jobs right now and going to take anything I get. All I need to do is save about $3k to make my trip happen. After that, I'll subsist on my writing income while taking classes, do the Peace Corps for two years, get an MS or MBA, and then have a proper job.
