You will never have to do manual labor or be homeless if you have a degree. You de-value it too much. Why don't you become an officer in the military and have full housing, full healthcare paid for making 70k a year? And have enlisted people stand up for you when you enter a room and suck up to you every chance they get
>>
Yeah, If I could redo it, I'd just do manual labor and work and save up and invest.

College is less about the degree and more about building connections/laying the groundwork for a career.

When I graduated last ear I had already been working for the past seven semesters, full time for the latest two of them, and had three job offers on the table ($19/hr as an Executive Assistant, $20/hr as an Admissions Coordinator, and $37,000 as a paralegal). None required a degree. A year later, I'm a paralegal making $42,000. Pretty soon I start law school and you can bet your ass I'll be a high performer, but focused a lot more on my career than the three years spent in school.

And let me be clear. There are people who do considerably better than I did, leaving making anywhere from $50-100K, but the main thing is having some position in mind/line while you take steps for the next.

The only purpose my degree will serve is when I'm getting into law school and I need to fill in the forms stating I did, in fact, obtain a BA.
>>
>>34226221

So what you're saying is you didn't need college, just connections

What kind of nurse are you? I assume you're not an RN. Most RN'S at my hospital are stuck on 50-60 hour weeks over 5-6 shifts.

>Perfect for night owls who want to work the night shift
Night shifts are comfy as everyone is asleep but you're always rotating.

I suck at math and got through med school, so I assume the same is for nursing. Basic dose calculations, perhaps a bit of biostats, nothing major.

guys life isnt a race

were not all equal

its ok if you dont have a hot wife and 3 kids or even just a gf

none of it matters in the end anyway, so if you do good, great, if not, keep trying.

just try to be happy and enjoy your life, and if you're perpetually unhappy, talk to someone about it and really try to figure out what it is that is bothering you.

thats it. life is that simple. don't over complicate it.

>I live in Canada, so it's $30/hr starting.
>3 days a week is pretty standard. I've mostly worked palliative care and general geriatrics over my career
About the same here in Aus. Aged care gets paid less though, RN'S make bank here.

>It's 3 years intensive if you have a previous degree and 4 years for everyone else here to become an RN
Three years intensive here for RN. Two if you have work experience in another area of nursing such as aged care. Includes placements.

h-how? is she a nurse practitioner? that still seems too high for an NP from my experience.

also, you get used to the bodily fluids and what not. it's not a big deal after a while, I used to be really disgusted by it but it doesn't even phase me anymore.

The whole process has also helped my social skills quite a bit. That's probably the best part of the job.

You'd probably struggle at it then. At least in my hospital we're like a big family. The people who don't make an effort to socialise (even in a small way) generally have to work a lot harder because they don't ask other people for help.

>performing in practical settings.
Probably a big problem to begin with but the work is so fucking repetitive, even when going into new wards. The first 1-2 weeks of a rotation is absolutely full on with so much information, the residual 6 months (or however long you stay there) is just autopilot because you do the same thing day in, day out, and if you ever get anything remotely unique and interesting you bet your ass everyone will want in on it out of curiosity.

You people ought to do some research. The idea that a college degree is worthless, or not worth the debt is false. The wage premium on a college degree has never been higher. I think that there is a lot of reason to believe that the gap between those with a college degree and those without is going to widen in the next few decades.

it doesn't matter what you do, your body will die. A trade will put it to work, toughen it, and eventually wear it out, while an office job will soften it, fatten it, and eventually wear out, probably around the same age, too.

Lowest paying degree in 2016 was Early Childhood Education with median starting pay of around $30,000 and mid career pay of $38,000. That's slightly better than a high school diploma. Take the cost of the degree and net it against lifetime accrued earnings and I wouldn't say that it's conclusive that a very low paying degree is particularly worth it if you're only concerned about earnings.

So no, not meme degrees.
>>
>>34228427
You screwed up. Don't expect a better experience with a degree in finance. I work in finance. Unless you want to sit in some back office doing data entry, the competition and cutthroat culture will be way worse than engineering. The first job is always extremely unpleasant to land no matter what.

If you study the arts, but especially painting, be prepared to work your fucking ass off
Nobody needs painters, it's a luxury product
If you go to school for painting be prepared to sign up for extra stuff, to get friendly with professors and gallery/publishing people, to spend all of your free time and money working on your projects to compete with the True Artists
I studied art. I never did any internships, earned my money by working at the dining hall... at first I rebelled at the idea that your life needs to be centered around making art, I didn't want to drop my other hobbies and was fascinated by socializing...
Now that I realize I just don't seem to have the endurance, I always spend part of my day relaxing instead of working from the time I wake to when I go asleep
The programs and whatnot were told to the nerds who hung around the professor kissing their asses..I was irritated by my liberal hipster classmates and wanted to go in, do my shit and leave...they'd talk of coming in early and staying late cause they were just so excited about art and I'd think, "fuck that"
But now I don't know where to begin even looking for some kind of job involved in artistic things
I learned how to draw a lot better and compose a more compelling image, how to work with certain materials but I didn't learn as much as I could have about computers
Now I sketch on my breaks working at the gas station to remind myself there's more to me, and working on an ink drawing, but that's taken me the better part of a year to get going and it needs another layer of complexity. I'm so stuck I think I really might not just be lacking in endurance, but not smart enough for more
It's the only thing I can see myself caring about though
You have to make it your life's mission man
The faggy elitist climate really sucked
But the fact that I was an immature lazy mentally unstable drunken drug addict wannabe hippy/punk was what really caused my lack of success

Seems off topic for the thread, but is there something specific you want to know?

The only thing of recent interest is that one of the girls--this one that calls me her brother in cringe fashion because I think she has issues--had surgery on her pussy because of an ingrown hair or something. I don't know how she afforded surgery but she was asleep for easily 24 hours straight last week and scared the hell out of me when she finally woke up moaning. She ended up giving me pain pills and McDonalds in return a few days afterward.

Well, I have two permanent residents living with me-the friend with the master's degree I mentioned earlier and this one middle-aged woman whose husband is serving long-ass sentence. The latter is the only one who pays me rent in cash though.

Besides that, there's usually a bunch of women who come and go to bum on my couch. Sometimes their guy friends will stay too but it's pretty rare for a reason I don't know. A couple of times a week they usually gather and invite some other people to do drugs in my house (mostly crack and weed). I don't do drugs myself but the payoff is they give me free stuff, like this one woman who gave me $3,000 worth of gas masks that were given away to her from a military friend because of a surplus. Most of the time though, they give me free electronics, which I honestly think are stolen.

It's really cool to see the walks of life they come form though. One was a stripper that doesn't come around much since she got pissed when I ask jokingly asked what her stage name was. Another was a tattoo artist who's offering to give me free ink, one was a retail employee, and a lot of them are just jobless who either leech off others, work as literal whores, or live off welfare.
