This place is closer to facebook than any of us would be willing to admitt. I think the fact that this place was not as edgy and retarded as /b/ from the get go made it vulnerable against this normie cancer. My favorite period was the pre-/sci/ days where /r9k/ basically functioned as a catch-all board. Sure there were some retards but the discussions were generally entertaining. Now because of memes and all the new boards making it irrelevant, /r9k/ exists solely for autistic whining. There used to be discussions about relationships but there was a lot more thought put into them.
I blame the alpha/beta meme, that was where it all went downhill.
