I think for alot of people it's just BC theyre choosing to put the minimum effort which is just to know how to do an operation and not care about the intuition behind it. Then they get caught up when they have to extrapolate something

The trick is to actually know what goes on behind the scenes. Most teachers do a terrible job at teaching that. They likely learn it brand new themselves a few months before they teach, then act like hot shit. Not even joking I think every single STEM teacher at my high school doubled as a sports team coach, no actually experience. Ridiculous.
