That definitely would not have worked. The only things I can think of that may have worked when they think you are a thief are "I was going to play a prank and change her wallpaper or something" or "I was seeing what music she listened to". I don't lie and since they thought I was a thief I thought it was better to go with the truth at that point since it was more embarrassing. When he was questioning me I even told him I don't want this to get out because it's too embarrassing, trying to gain sympathy for my side. I was ashamed, etc.
