>The crunch of the snow beneath your shoes.
>The icy wind pelts, you brace yourself.
>The cold wind seems to cut right through your clothes, as if naked upon the mountainside.
>What would have happened to you last night if not for Jailene?
>Thank goodness she knew how to make a fire.
>The idea of you and Porter struggling in vain to make a fire..
>Cuddled up close, as the cold robs you both slowly of life.
>It's a good thing Jailene was here..
>You see the Frost Wyrms flying overhead.
>You try to move at a moderate pace.
>It seems like it's difficult not to attract attention.
>Exposed up here on this mountainside.
>You wonder about that resort..
>How many people would have liked to have a vacation here..
>Or perhaps how many people lived up in these mountains.
>Even you would have not survived the night without someone like Jailene.
>Normal merchants could easily succumb to the cold.
>Without horses, without roads, you're merely trekking slowly and almost blindly through snow.
>A cold barren hell.
>A graveyard of things that could have been.
>This mountain is a sad place.
>Your thoughts drift back to Cantolide.
>The look in her eyes, the tone of her voice.
>Her goal seemed to be to conquer everything..
>Cantolide.. Who is she really?
>And, who are you?
>What are your goals?
>Do goals and ideals define who someone is?
>If so, does someone without goals or ideals lack a definitive purpose?
>What does it mean to have no reason to exist?
>If you simply drift through life, can it truly be considered living, or just existing?
>The cold numbs your skin.
>With every step it seems you become colder.
>And your only desire is to become warm.
>Jailene and Porter seem cold too, shivering.
>Suddenly a Frost Wyrm lands in front of you.
>It roars loudly standing 14 feet tall or so.
"Any Info Jail?!"
>"Thats a Frost Wyrm. It can breath an icy breath freezing it's victims solid. It's the top predator of the frozen wastes of Coelentera. Targeted physical attacks toward it's eyes or the inside of its mouth would be most effective, anywhere else will be difficult to damage due to it's thick scales."

If it is the to predator I don't imagine we will have much luck running from it.

> What defines someone?
I suppose there are different ways of looking at it. What ideals someone ascribes to, what social connections they make, what legacy they leave behind. I don't know how it works on Morgan's world but I figure the making of life is subjective; it's what you make of it.

>Why now?
>Of all the times a battle could take place..
>After escaping war and winding up in a small cave..
>The monster stands strong and firm.
>It seems to linger in its approach.
>"Back me up, I'm going in."
>"Don't forget that ice is merely frozen water, this whole battlefield you can use to your advantage."
>"Ok! I've never used magic with ice before but.."
>She uses her magic on the snow.
>She manipulates it slowly into water, taking the water and morphing it into a sphere she hurls it on the dragon.
>It smashes into the dragon but doesn't seem to do more than get it wet.
>"Well, that went about as well as expected. Don't wait up, I'm going in!"
>"Aim for the eyes and mouth!"
>"Got it!"
>You lift rocks and try to throw them at the dragon.
>It hits but doesn't bring it down.
>What matters most?
>What a persons ideals are? What connections they make?
>Porter tries to strike for the eyes but it throws up it's wings knocking her back.
>Porter is able to stay on her feet.
>Or is it grander? The legacy they leave behind perhaps?
>The wyrm roars and breathes ice at her.
>Porter tries to dodge but gets caught in the stream.
>Her lower half is frozen over.
>"Aren't you going to help her?"
>No.. The only things that matter now is survival and reaching the Farm to be with your sister. Anything else can wait since it won't matter if you are dead.
>The frost wyrm moves in on Porter as she struggles against the ice.
>You lift rocks with magic chucking them at the dragon.
>They seem to hit harder than before catching it off guard.
>It roars.
>"Keep it distracted, I'll try and help Porter!"
>You fling more rocks at it, it roars furiously making it's way toward you.
>Moving so close and fast now.
>It snaps with it's jaws, you dodge.
>It snaps again and you duck, before coming in and stabbing it in the eye.
>It flaps its wings roaring furiously knocking you back some.
>Suddenly a massive jet of water from the side blasting it back onto the snow.
>The Wyrm gets up and flies off.
>"We did it!"
>Jailene is still smashing against some of the ice on Porters foot with the speargun.
>"Be careful not to fire that thing.."
>"I know what I'm doing."
>You help break her out of her icy prison.
>Porter shivers.
>"Whew, Morgan for the save! Thanks for stepping in there, just needed to get my mojo flowing."
>She hi fives you.
>With the dragon staved off, you continue your trek up the mountains.

>You've reached the forest after traveling the perilous peaks and fighting of a Frost Wyrm.
>"Well, how much further now?"
"Uh.."
>"According to the map, and the medium pace we've been traveling at, probably another 2 days."
>"T-two days?!"
>"What did you expect, we're traveling across an entire continent."
"I don't think I've ever been in this deep in the forest."
>"Just keep calm. If anything, this should be much easier than surviving up on the peaks."
>"Jail is right.. I already feel better now that I'm not freezing my ass off."
>She shivers reflexively.
"I can't wait to get home.."
>"So, what's it like on a farm Morg?"
"It's hard, but you get used to it. It was hard to relate to anyone growing up because I'm the only girl around who did any farming."
>"Makes sense. What about you Jaily?"
>"My father is a librarian, and my mom is a baker."
>"And how does she feel about you eating cheap noodles?"
>"Shes always asking me to come home so she can cook and I don't have to torture myself. But I like being independent."
>"But Dad is ok with it?"
>"He's the one who inspired me to become more educated. I greatly respect him and my Mom for raising me so well."
"Did you ever, feel like you didn't have a purpose?"
>"No. I never felt like that, why do you ask?"
>"It's about that Cantaloupe chick again isn't it Morg?"
"I just wonder.. Whats it really like, to have no purpose at all in the world. I mean, as a farmer, I always had something to do. I had a goal.."
>Porter puts her hand on your shoulder.
>"Don't worry about it, that chick is nuts."
>"Even without a purpose, you can still exist. Exist until you find it."
>"Oh and find it she has.. She's definitely fulfilling her 'destiny' right now isn't she?"
"Is this really what she wanted though?"
>"Well if its not what she wanted, she sure is messing things up pretty bad."

>It's night time.
>You've set up camp in the woods.
>"Another 2 days until we reach Morgans house.."
>"Traveling by foot sure is inconvenient."
>"But we did just pass over a mountain range. It's not exactly the most easy area to traverse."
>"What do you think Morg?"
"I.. Tell me more about you Jailene.. I.. Wanna get my mind off some things."
>"I was born and raised in the north? What is it you want to know?"
>"What's it like up north? I never had much of a problem down south, but many people have food shortages and don't get fresh food. >Although, I suppose my Dad is partially to blame for that."
>Porter has a sad look on her face.
>"Well, there are a lot of merchants, a lot of trade. I had fresh food growing up. Not only that but Mom was a baker, so she always made homemade cookies, and cakes, and bread."
>"What was your favorites?"
>"Probably either her zucchini bread, or her peanut butter cookies."
>"That sounds yummy, I'd love to try them sometime."
>"You should have stopped into my Moms bakery the Snack Rack."
>"You keep talking about your Mom, but what's your Dad like?"
>"He's quiet, and reserved for the most part. But he has a wealth of practical knowledge. People come into the library all the time asking him how to build or fix things. He even got scouted out for the research team in Cnidaria."
>"Well, did he take the job?"
>"He went for a few months and then he quit. And after that he never really talked about it."
>"So he never mentioned why?"
>"No.. But he was quieter than usual afterward. He seemed avoidant. Generally unresponsive. I can't imagine why he was acting the way he did."
>Jailene shrugs and says,
>"Humans are weird."
>It's chilly at night in the forest.
>The fire helps to keep you warm.
>But you still wind up cuddling with one another to maintain heat.

>You set off early in the morning.
>As you're walking you suddenly step in thick muck.
>"Ugh, this area is all soaking wet!"
>"Oh my, it seems I've miscalculated."
>Porter growls.
>"And what do you mean by that?"
>"I didn't account for the swamp."
>Porter peers over the huge area of water in front of you.
>"Oh no.. Is this Forlorne Swamp?"
"Wait, you know about this area?"
>"Well.. Sometimes when you run a gang as large as the W.O.P. you get a few, undesirables. Rebel rousers who try to shut down gang activities."
"W-what are you saying?"
>Porter has a grim expression on her face.
>"This is where they end up. Once they're tossed in here, they're never heard from again."
"N-no.. That's.."
>"This isn't good."
"Oh no, not you too Jailene.."
>Suddenly you see a titanic set of scales move through the water.
>You gasp.
>"As expected. Sarcosuchus imperator roams the water."
"What the heck is that? Can I get that in english."
>"Funny, I didn't know it had a proper name like that. But you're basically looking at a big ol' crocodile."
"G-geez how big is it?"
>"About 36 to 40 feet long."
>"So basically, theres no way we can swim across with that big ol' monster in the water."
"How are we going to get home? Can't we just go around!?"
>"The swamp goes in all directions, it'd take at least 5 days of backtracking to navigate back up and around it."
"Well, we've already come across the mountains."

Crap I didn't expect this..
How are we going to cross the water? It looks like it goes on for miles!

>Porter attempts to freeze the water, but it seems to be a fruitless effort.
>"Well great."
>The three of you go digging around the forest gathering materials for a raft.
>After some time you piece together a raft using the rope.
>It's small, but it floats.
>The three of you hop on and begin to travel the bayou.
>"Well, that was simple!"
>"We still spent half a day finding the right kind of wood to build a raft."
>You paddle upstream.
>It's daunting to say the least trying to navigate between trees and other hazards.
>You can't see how deep down this water goes.
>The prospect of falling in is utterly terrifying.
"H-how deep is this water?"
>"Who's to say? I've never been out here."
>"I've only been out here once or twice.. This place is way out in the boonies even for me."
"So.. You and your, 'family' come out here?"
>"Oh yeah. If you've ever seen bandits come out this way, chances are they were probably looking to find a secluded place to do business, or more likely, to dispose of dissenters."
"So, that's all that's out here then.."
>"Well. Dad did mention some riverfolk congregating deep within the woods. Apparently they're not keen about outsiders. Southerners are just barely welcome, and if you're from the north you can forget it."
>"How rude."
"Why?"
>"Dad said they're all pretty anti-government. They closed themselves off from the world after some big thing happened between them a long time ago."
>You row silently for a moment.
"How.. How did they survive all this time?"
>>
>>570092
>"I dunno. Ask them I guess. But personally, I don't wanna take any detours to some back hick town in the boonies. That's just asking for trouble."
>"Agreed. They sound uncivilized."
Suddenly your raft snags on something.
It shakes and rocks nearly tossing you off into the water.
>"Woah geez!"
>"Hold on!"
Water starts leaking through the logs.
>"Quickly Porter, freeze it!"
>Porter tries.
>"I don't know why you keep making me do this! I don't have ice powers!"
"Can't you try moving the water out of the cracks?"
>"You try! It's coming in too fast!"
Suddenly you see someone rowing up.
>"Welle well well. Hehehe three girls bout to be soaked to their drawz in the bayou."
>Jailene calls out,
>"Oh thank goodness you have a boat! Save us!"
>"This here is my pirogue. Where ya from? I can't tell if ya brave'er stupid done coming up da bayou on a glorafi bunnala sticks."
"We're sinking!"
>He chuckles.
>"Well, I can't rightly letcha becaum gator food. Hop on in!"
>He paddles the pirogue closer as you climb inside just as the raft sinks into the bayou."
>Hes.. Really not bad looking at all.
>"My name is Billy Cornpipe."
>He reaches out his hand, and each of you shake it.
>Jailene lingers in her eye contact with him.
>His overalls unbuttoned on one side revealing a toned tan white physique.
>His hair is a dirty blonde, and he has freckles on his face and his neck.
>"You're a long way from home aren'tcha?"
>"Y-yeah."
>Jailene fiddles with her hair blushing nervously.
>"Your jacket reminds me of mah mamas gumbo."
>"Hehe.."
"We came seeking refuge from the north, we're just on our way back.."
>"Refuge? From what?"
>"Morg, should we tell him?"
"He did save our lives.."
>>
>>570101
>You explain the situation.
>"War is a commin eh? Dunno watchu spectin coming from some dirty northerners."
>Jailene seems a bit upset as she says,
>"B-billy come on.. Surely you can't believe all people from the north are bad.."
>"Pa told me so! He tellin me they try to swindle ya, lie to ya bout anything. Now I hear they startin a war. This is why we Doiusas cut ourselves off long ago. Ain't no northerner gonna be welcome in our town."
>"Anyhow, honestly we're just trying to get home."
>"Nonsense! An enemy of my enemy is my friend, yaller good folk! Imma invite y'all over for dinner!"
"But Jailene is a-"
>Jailene puts her hand over your mouth.
>"She's a real pretty lookin gal."
>"O-oh stop.."
>"So tell me aboutchu, I wanna know what kinda girl wears that funny colored jacket."
>"W-well. I was a researcher.."
>"Research? Hmm.. You're one a them smart girls huh?"
>He suddenly has a downcast expression.
>"Thats a real shame."
>"W-what do you mean?"
>"Well.. On a count of I ain't very smart myself. I tried learnin. But I ain't good at the hard thinking kinda stuff."
>Porter speaks up,
>"Hey I feel ya there."
>She raises her fist.
>He pounds it.
>"You.. Want to learn?"
>"Of course. But, I reckon I'm i'll probably never be smart. Sometimes I even have trouble with my readin and writin."
>Jailene grabs his hand.
>"I-i can teach you!"
>"W-what? Oh.. Y'all don't have to do that Miss Jailene. It wouldn't be worth your time.. I'm sure I just wouldn't get it."
>"I'm sure you can be smart if you just put your mind to it."
>He chuckles nervously.
>"Well, I 'spose it can't hurt if you're offering and all that. Anyhow, looks like we're here!"
>>
>>570104
>You arrive in the river town of Doiusa.
>There are big worn wooden houses that seem rather unorthodoxically constructed.
>People playing harmonicas.
>Frogs being caught by the waterside.
>Old men in rocking chairs.
"I've been meaning to ask, how do you survive out here if you're cut off from the rest of the world?"
>"Aww shoot, that's easy! Here in Doiusa we're all like one big family out here. Everybod knows everybody. And we all salvage and share everything we got."
You struggle to find words.
>Jailene seems impressed.
>"I had no idea a society could function so well without being part of the bigger infrastructure overall."
>"Well I have no idea what you said, but it sounded like praise."
>"It is. Morg here can tell you, even in the south, we don't have community this close anywhere."
"Yeah, it's chaotic sometimes at best."
>"I figure y'all just need to get along. Prolly stop highfalutin bout yer valuables and cherish what really matters."
>Jailene responds,
>"Quaintly profound."
>"Yaller gonna have to teach me these big words yer using."
>Jailene giggles.
>>
>>570107
>You're sitting down to eat with Billys family.
>"It's rare to get southerners down here."
>"Yep. I reckon this the first time Billy ever came home witha groupa outsiders."
>"I couldn't just leave em in the water!"
>"You're so stupid sometimes. Ain'tchu thinkin bout what kinda folk they are?"
>"Sis' come on, they ain't like that!"
>"Nyla is right. We've had southerners come and dump people in the bayou for years!"
>"Hey wasn't Remus one a them guys that done crawled his way out after being dumped in here?"
>"He was a special case, he done made himself part of the town now."
>"But still, these girls wasn't like them. They be escaping a war."
>"War?"
>"Dangnabbit Billy, whatchall got us into now?"
>"I ain't done nothin pa! We got some hotheads up in the north killin each other, and these gals don't want nothing to do with it."
>"Hmph, serves em right for going up there in the first place."
>"I thought that too at first, but, well we all done made mistakes."
>Billys family nods in agreement.
>"Well, they don't seem like the northerner type. Them fast-talkin penny-pinchers."
>"Naw, they all good clean southern girls."
>He pats Jailene firmly on the shoulder.
>Jailene sinks into her turtleneck.
>"Well now, y'all've got to tell us about yourselves now."
>"Oh boy, where do we begin, Morg?"
"This soup is really good!"
>Some of them laugh.
>"Well, I guess even outsiders got to admit that our food is the best!"
>>
>>570108
>It's night.
>You're sleeping in the upper room.
>You hear some walking around.
>You decide to investigate.
>You see and open room with light peaking out.
>You have a peek inside.
>You see Jailene and Billy by an oil lantern.
>Jailene is leaning over him, she has a tender expression in her eyes.
>"And, that's what this means."
>"Oh.. I see. Man I'm learnin so much already!"
>"See, you can do it."
>"I reckon you're just a good teacher Miss Jailene."
>"You think so?"
>"I'm sure I'll be smart in no time with someone like you to guide me!"
>"I.. Well.."
>"What's wrong Miss Jailene? I didn't say something weird did I?"
>"N-no.. You're fine, it's just.."
>"It's.. About your friends isn't it?"
>"I'm sorry Billy. I just.. I really have a connection with them."
>Billy is poorly hiding his disappointment.
>"I understand.. Really."
>"Billy-"
>"Your friends mean so much more to you than a dummy like me ever could."
>He throws the book across the room.
>"Billy please! It's not like that. I respect that in a town like this, you want to get smarter. And maybe a place like this doesn't have the resources to help you."
>"But.. You can help me."
>"I can.. But you know I have to help my friends first.. I hope you'll take this time, to consider pursuing knowledge outside of this town. And.. Who knows, maybe our paths will cross again."
>With that, Jailene walks out.
>She runs into you.
>"Oh, Morgan, I didn't expect to see you up so late.. Excuse me."
>She quickly walks off.
>You peer in one last time to see Billy crawling over to pick up the book.
>>
>>570115
>Its the next day.
>It's an awkward ride as Billy delivers you across the bayou.
>Jailene appears to be clutching something as she walks away.
>Tears are streaming down her face.
>"Hey, Jailene, is everything ok?"
>She looks back at Billy paddling away.
>Her grip loosens.
>It looks like shes holding a crocodile tooth necklace.
>"W-we have about a day left of traveling till we reach your place."
"Jailene-"
>"I suggest we keep moving! We.. Wouldn't want to keep Milly waiting."

Jailene seems really upset, I don't think I've ever seen her this emotional, what should I do?
We're so close to home, what should we do when we get back?
>>
>>570125
Well apart from hot bath and sleep and catch up with sis (and make sure she isn't abusing the help, kek) I think we should stop by town and let the mayor know what's up.
I'm glad the hillbillies don't seem so bad, even if they would probably eat Porter if they knew who she was.
Sadly I gotta sleep now OP, thanks for the update
>>
>>570125
>Once you are back home, talk to Jailene.
>"I know you really like the guy, but just because they live insolated it doesn't mean they are stupid. When they figure out you are from the north, and they will because you have no clue about how the south is like... well... they might hang you. Or they might at least lock you up and never let you leave so you don't reveal the town location. It sucks but it wouldn't be safe for you to stay there. I mean maybe you could convince him to move to the south but I don't think he would do it.

>You give Jailene a hug.
>She doesn't return the embrace, standing there like a limp fish.
--

>You're walking through the woods.
>Trees starting to look familiar.
>You're all tired from this journey.
>It's been a long trek across water, mountains and swamp.
>Porter who's usually full of pep..
>She's quiet now. But then, what else is there to talk about?
>Everyone just wants to come over to your home.
>Rain starts coming down from the overcast.
---

>It's late at night.
>The three of you decided to press on despite being tired.
>It's only supposed to be one days journey.
>With every step you regain that familiarity.
>Now finally, you press through the trees.
>And you gaze upon the farm in all it's glory.
"I'm.. Home, I'm finally home."
>"This is great.. *yawns* man, I'm tired."
>Jailene is silent.
>You walk toward the farm.
>Suddenly from behind you,
>"It took you long enough. Wheres Dad?"
>Milly is standing there smiling at you.
"MILLY!"
>You run at her and give her a big hug.
>"I missed you too big sis."
>You can't help but feel just a bit teary eyed.

>"So.. Dad isn't coming back then.."
"Milly, I.."
>"At.. At least you're safe."
"I hope you're not mad at me."
>"I'm sure you did everything you could."
>Did.. I really do all that I could?
>"It's not Morgans fault, you weren't there.. The chaos nearly got the three of us imprisoned or worse."
>"Yeah, like not to mention we had to travel a LONG way home to avoid being caught."
>"Don't get me wrong, I'm so happy you're ok.. I.. I guess I was just hoping once you came back, things could go back to normal, and we could all be one big happy family again."
>You hug Milly.
>Porter with a nervous expression hugs Jailene.
>"What are you doing?"
>"It's not fair, I have no one to hug!"
>"Please get off."
>"Jailene, come on.."
Jailene walks off into one of the other rooms.
>"Geez what's with her?"
>"Pfft, boy troubles."
>"Boys?"
"I guess we kinda left out what happened in the bayou."
--

>It's the next morning.
>You're alone in a room with Jailene.
>"Listen, Jailene."
>"I'm sorry for being rude to Porter last night. I.. I was just tired."
"You don't have to hide it.. I know you really liked that guy, but just because they live isolated it doesn't mean they are stupid. When they figure out you are from the north, and they will because you have no clue about how the south is like... well... they might hang you. Or they might at least lock you up and never let you leave so you don't reveal the town location. It sucks but it wouldn't be safe for you to stay there. I mean maybe you could convince him to move to the south but I don't think he would do it."
>"He wanted my help, and I just left him there.. What am I supposed to do?"
"In the end is your choice, just remember that just because someone seems nice it doesn't mean it won't hurt you."
>"Didn't you see the other night? He wanted to learn.. He wanted to get smarter.. I know that he's self conscious about it."
"You only met him the other day.. It's not like we spent a lot of time there.."
>"That doesn't matter. He was just like me when I was younger, learning with my Dad. And I feel like I abandoned him."
"I-i.. I'll give you, some space then."
>You begin to walk away.
>She grabs your hand.
>"I'm not mad at you."
"I know."

>You all decide to take a hot bath together.
>You're all wearing swimwear to cover up your lewd parts.
>"Ahh.. It's so nice."
>"I concur."
"This is the best."
>"My hay has never felt so pampered."
>"So, Mills, whats with you anyway? Are you a scarecrow or what?"
>Milly seems confused.
>"W-what do you mean?"
>"Come on, I mean, you've got hay in your body."
>"But.. I'm the same as all of you."
>"W-wait, I didn't mean it like that!"
>"I'm curious about your magical abilities."
>"Why?"
>"I've never heard of a haycaster. I surmise there may have been some documentation that was destroyed during the reckoning, but that could be said for anything not currently on record."
>"I mean.. I just, use magic?"
>"But, what kind?"
>"Haycasting of course."
>"But what exactly IS that? What separates a mage from a haycaster?"
>"Well.. I can manipulate hay to do whatever I want it to. I can harden and sharpen them, firing them at enemies like needles. I can make it explode, and I can even make them combust or freeze."
>"Fascinating! Complete control of hay using it as a super-catylst for advanced sorcery. So can you manipulate all plants, or just hay?"
>"I think just hay, but I've never really tried controlling anything else."
>"Is there hay that you have more control over than other types?"
>"Just the stuff that makes up my body."
>"And.. You can replace that stuff with more ordinary hay?"
>"I guess you could say that the hay doesn't make me, but I make the hay."
"I'm not sure that's quite right.."
>"She's right though, if the hay on it's own isn't what's special, there must be something inside that makes it have those properties."
>You step in front of Milly and Jailene.
"Don't talk about Milly like that."
>"Ah, forgive me. I'm sorry Milly."
>Milly seems a bit sad.
>"It's alright.."
>>

>You're in town with everyone.
>"It's been a long time Morgan."
"Miss Varidia."
>She shakes your hand.
>"I see you have new friends."
"This is Porter and Jailene."
>"A pleasure to meet the both of you, please, come inside my office."
--

>"The bandits continue their plundering. We managed to keep them out of town for the most part with the militia provided by your father.."
>"A militia? Down here in this little town?"
>"This town was much bigger before the bandits really sank their teeth into it."
>"T-the bandits.. Right."
>Porter has a downcast expression.
>"Is something the matter young miss?"
>"Oh.. No, it's nothing."
>"In any case, this war you spoke of troubles me. Though for us southern folk, I suppose it will make no difference which figurehead sits on the throne."
"Um.. Perhaps I wasn't quite clear that a revolution was taking place."
>"Leaders come and go. Things change. You won't catch me shedding a tear. Perhaps once the new army takes over, the military will take an interest in southern affairs. When that happens we'll wipe the scum clean off our roads and out of our towns for good."
>Porter has a heartbroken expression on her face.
>"So.. The 'bandits'.. They're to blame for the town suffering?"
>"I thought I made this clear.. They do nothing but harass us when they come to town, and then they steal from our merchants on the road! We're doing a little better now.. But we'll still occasionally hear of the robbed merchant wagon still."
>"That's.. Terrible.. I'm so sorry."
>Varidia puts her hand on Porters shoulder.
>"There there, it's not like it's your fault."
"I-i um.. Yeah, well, err.."
>"Morgan what is it?"

I should probably change the subject..
But what should I say?
>>
>>574277
>So, we should probably talk business! Eh, Porter how good are you fighting? Think you could give sword lessons to those in town who want to learn?
>Ask Jailene to help the town with healing since she is too much of a city girl to be comfortable in the farm. Maybe free healing for the milicia and you pay her for it?
>Catch up with Milly, do magic practice, try to find a book or something so Morgan can do ice magic too. Is the same freaking element h2o, as learned in that old chemistry book, why she can't control it as solid, liquid or as gas?
>>
>>574477
This works also
>Try to see what you can do to cheer up your friends. Maybe after a few days of work you could do a small party in the farm just your friends and your sister?

"So, we should probably talk business! Eh, Porter how good are you fighting? Think you could give sword lessons to those in town who want to learn?"
>"How good am I at fighting?"
>She laughs.
>"Strong enough to kick your butt!"
>She ruffles your hair playfully.
>"Are you sure Miss Porter? Its going to be an awfully big responsibility."
>She flexes her muscles.
>"They'll be so strong no monster will dare to set foot in this town."
>"It's not the monsters I'm worried about but-"
"YES, thank you Porter! Now Jailene.."
>"What?"
>"You should help the town with healing since you're too much of a city girl to be comfortable on the farm."
>Jailene looks at you incredulously.
>"W-well, excuse me! I can be just as useful on the farm as anyone else."
"But you've never-"
>"Y'all will learn what a awesome farmhelp I can be!"
"Y'all?"
>"Darn tooting! Why I reckon even Billy will appreciate how useful I can be handling his farm equipment once I get the hang of it."
"Are you sure Jailene? Farming is a lot of hard work, and we could really use you to teach the townsfolk.."
>"I-i can do both! Trust me, it'll be just like when I tutored some of our younger researchers back in Cnidaria."
>Porter seems to have a skeptical look too.
"Well, if you can handle it.."
>>

>Training has been pretty rocky.
>The townspeople seem unmotivated.
>You can tell that to them this is just a job and nothing more.
>They're no soldiers by any means..
--
>You decide to hold a small party just for you and your friends to relieve some tension.
>"So Mills, Morgan tells me you're afraid of fire."
>"Y-yeah? You're not going to try and burn me are you?"
>"Nah. But I am curious, how exactly do you combust hay into flames without getting scared?"
>"Oh. That's easy, look."
>Milly holds out a little handful of hay and ignites it in a powerful display of fire.
>"Woah!"
>"This is my own special fire. It can't burn me, but it can hurt my enemies."
>"Is that why it's yellow? I've never seen fire like that."
"Milly your fire is so pretty."
>"Thanks Morgan."
>Jailene interjects.
>"My question is how do you keep a constant supply of hay for continual magic usage?"
>"I can create hay using my own energy."
>"So.. You can heal yourself to some extent?"
>"Sort of.. But it's kind of slow, and it's hard to focus on fighting if I'm constantly healing myself."
>"I've never taken much of an interest in the arcane before, but being around you is fascinating."
>Porter interjects now grabbing Millys hand,
>"Yeah, teach us some awesome magic! I wanna know how you can freeze stuff! I can't seem to make water do what I want it to."
>"Uh.. W-well. I'm not a very good teacher.. And I mean, I've only ever worked with Hay."
>"Good enough for me, I wanna be a haycaster too!"
"I don't think humans can haycast Porter."
>"Theoretically it might be possible."
"Not you too Jailene.."

>It's late at night.
>Mashiro and Milly are inside the barn.
>"I think I've learned everything there is to know about farming."
>"Mashiro.."
>"Now.. You can go have adventures with your big sister like you always wanted to."
>Milly walks closer and places her hand on Mashiros face.
>He's blushing.
>"Why do you seem so sad?"
>He bites his bottom lip.
>"S-sad? I'm not sad, I'm happy for you!"
>"You don't want me to go away do you?"
>Her eyes staring directly into his.
>"Its.. That obvious huh?"
>Theres a silence for a moment.
>"I.. I don't know how I can repay you.. No one outside of my family has ever been so concerned for me."
>"But I do care Milly. I know when some of the other farmers look at you, all they see is a scarecrow, or a mean boss."
>"Hey!"
>"B-but that's not what I think! Really, when I look at you, I see a kind and supportive sister, whos worked her whole life trying to protect her farm and her family.. You remind me a lot of my sister."
>"You have a sister too?"
>"Her name is Mashira. She went up north to go enlist in the military in the hopes of eventually providing support for the town of Surrova. But she's still working up there last I heard.."
>"You keep in touch?"
>"We write letters all the time. She thinks there's going to be some kind of big political shift that's going to really help the south."
>"Hmm.. I think big sis said something about a war up there.."
>"Oh no! I hope shes ok.. Darn it.. This is why I'm such a terrible younger sibling.. I could never be like you Milly. You're so strong.."
>Milly grips Mashiros hands.
>She quickly leans in and gives him a kiss on the mouth.
>"M-milly.."
>"You are strong.."
>"B-but-"
>She places her hand on his chest.
>"I've seen how hard you work, and how well you can fight. You've got the heart of a real fighter in you."
>"That.. Means so much coming from you."
>Milly hugs Mashiro.
>"I.. I wish you could come with us.. There will be so many new things I'll get to see.. But somehow, I feel like I want you to see them with me."
>"Milly."
>"I trust you completely to take care of this farm while I'm gone. I know it will be hard.. And.. I promise I'll try and write letters about my adventures and visit as often as I can!"
>"I'll.. Do my best."
>"Heh.. You're the first boy I've ever kissed."
>"You're the first girl I've ever kissed."
>"Can we, do it again?"
>Mashiro goes in for another kiss.
>Milly and Mashiro passionately make out while the moon shines through the barn.

>That very same night.
>"It's.. Been a little while since you and I shared a bed like this.."
"C-come on Porter, don't make it weird.. We slept together a whole bunch on the way here remember?"
>"Yeah.. The ground wasn't very comfortable. But that aside, those nights were probably some of the best sleep I've ever gotten."
"You.. Don't mean that right? A-anyhow.. How did you like dinner?"
>"That mushroom stew you made was soo good.. It reminded me so much of my Dad."
"Porter.."
>"You know, you're the only one I've ever opened up to about him.. And, every time we talked, I started to come to grips with my own feelings. He really cared about me a lot more, I think than I gave him credit for."
"So then-"
>"It doesn't mean I approve of all the bad things he's done. But he's still my Dad.. And when we got separated back in the city. I felt worried about him.. I cared, and wondered if he was alright."
"Well.. I mean, he's still your Dad after all."
>"I just hope it doesn't sound bad.. I know Varidia wasn't too pleased about all the 'bandit' activity."
>You grip her hands.
"Porter, that has nothing to do with you. You didn't do anything wrong!"
>"I'm.. I'm not so innocent Morgan.. Maybe I just forgot to tell you.. Or, maybe I wanted to forget but.. This mark on my back.. I've been involved in gang activities."
"P-porter why-"
>"I was young! I didn't really know.. What I was doing.. Dad and everyone always seemed so proud of me when I did what they asked."
>You don't know what to say.
>"It was only after a while, when I started to realize how much suffering the people of the south were going through did I finally quit. All those times I made my family proud, I hurt our people.. I stole willingly from families in need. And no matter how much I want to pretend it was all some dream, or like it never happened.. I can't ever take it back.. I'm a criminal.. I don't deserve this life.."
>Tears are streaming down her face.

How should I be reacting to this?
What should I focus on tomorrow?

>Well... if you really want to leave that life behind. We could heat a sword with fire and burn that mark away while you bite a towel. But is gonna really hurt. And Jail will call us idiots even if she will heal it anyway.
>I think my sister is dating one of the workers. I am happy for her but I don't want to think how it even works with her being made of hay.
>Think you could help me make an speech? So the guards get more motivated? Something about them being heroes to everyone they save and protect?
>Jailene is working too hard. She didn't take well leaving that guy behind. But... it would not have worked well. She is from the north and a wanderer, she would be unhappy stuck in an insolated town all her life. Not to mention they could have basically forced her to stay there forever.
>Porter... uh... do you think we... we like each other the way a man and a woman like each other?
>Do farmwork and train with your friends. Tell Jailene to slow down even if you and Porter have to force her to take a break. Also make sure she eats well and bathes regularly. Damn Jail is like a little kid sometimes even if she is smart.
>Tall with Milly alone. "Milly... I know you want to leave the farm and visit the big cities. But... if you do... let's do it together okay? You are strong but frail. And I can patch you up if you can't. Plus... I am quite sure you can't stay away from the green for long. Your power comes from earth and nature and big cities have little of that. Granted I am not absolutely sure and I have been wrong with some things, like that Porter should be able to manipulate water in all it's states easily, but if you didn't have limits like that then the military would just have a golem army. You know sometimes I can just feel were the Earth is when I close my eyes, I am just imaging it or is just oart if learning Earth magic?
>I... I feel horrible for leaving dad behind. But this... this is a revolution. Is hard to say who is wrong and who is right. I think most nobles are greedy jerks, but... but I don’t think having a girl not much older than me as Queen would really improve things much. From what I have read about revolutions, they will just end replacing the nobles, and... will that make things better? I honestly don't know. I hust know is the little people, the ones without power or money, the ones that will end paying for it, with their blood and tears.
