After Velvet explained everything she gathered so far, Jack speaks up.

Jack Chitin
"Well, I'm pretty tired, I should go back to the Mortal Realm and get some sleep, tomorrow we storm the provinces and take them by force."

The trio exits the bathroom and slowly walks towards the dining room. However, once they arrive, both Umbra and Jack start to panic.

Umbra
"Uhh... where's the fleabag?!"

Jack Chitin
"Damn it Xeri, where did you go..."

They both start to frantically search the premises and after a few moments they both bump into each other in a comic fashion.

Umbra
"Jack... what if they found out?! W-What are we gonna do?!"

Jack hugs Umbra and pat's her head to calm her down.

Jack Chitin
"Don't worry, if the situation escalates, we aren't a bunch of pushovers, right?", he gives her a smug and confident look

Umbra raises her head to look at Jack, smiling as well.

Velvet
"Good n-news, they left a n-note.", she said while picking up a piece of paper from the dining table

Velvet starts to read it out loud.

Velvet
"Dear Jack and Umbra, we woke up and you were gone. We don't know if you're still in the realm, but just to make sure you guys catch up, me and Gat felt a bit bloodthirsty, so we went and attacked the provinces ourselves. Love, Xeri xoxo"

Jack Chitin
"Great... just great..." he said while putting his palm on his face and sighing

Jack Chitin
"Alright, for now, let's just pretend that nothing happened. Those two screwballs probably went guns blazing instead of thinking of a strategy. Let's try to find them them first, but if they started the carnage, then we have no choice."

Umbra places her palm on Jack's cheek.

Umbra
"I can't materialize in the Mortal Realm yet, I will lend you support from the Deity Realm. Promise me... promise me that you'll come back to me in one piece...", she said with tears building up in her eyes

Jack Chitin
"I promise." he said while letting out a warm smile

They both embrace and gently kiss each other for a few moments. Velvet notices the display of affection and covers her blushing face with one of her ancient study books. Umbra and Jack separate, parting ways. Jack jumps through a dark portal and lands back in the Mortal Realm, more precisely somewhere in the Casius forest.

Jack Chitin
"Looks like I'm not near the hut. Damn it, where did you guys go..."

Suddenly, Jack hears muffled explosions in the distance.

Please excuse the following, but I'm still working on the overhauled stat, combat and inventory system. They'll be in the same theme as the Dominium Profiles and Map. Some of you might noticed that the last time we had the combat/inventory screen was back in Chapter 2. Soon we'll have more fun features at our disposal, but for now combat and inventory are out of commission for the time being. Once again, just wanted to explain on why we haven't revisited those features so far.

Jack tries to think what's the best call to make.

Jack Chitin
"Wait and think, Jack. Those explosions might be Casius burning, or something else entirely. I'm not sure if Carnifex joined them as well. I haven't talked to him if he'll engage in direct combat as well."

As Jack tries to decide, continuous explosions echo in the distance.

[1 hour ago, a few moments after Xeri and Jack left for the dinner party]

Carnifex
"Well, the night is still young. I've slept recently, so might as well go search for those herbs I had in mind. It's a full moon, so I won't be needing a torch."

Carnifex packs his ritual bones and locks Jack and Gat in the hut, since their spirits are currently in the Deity Realm. Carnifex sets forth into the forest, looking for the ingredients he needs to continue his blood magic studies.

Carnifex
"Ah, here they are. Finally, these toxins inside the plant will help me research the Blood Plague I've been working on."

Suddenly a voice speaks up

[incomprehensible language]

The startled Carnifex pulls out a bone blade and looks around him.

Carnifex
"Who goes there? Show yourself!"

???
[incomprehensible language]

Carnifex makes sure that nobody is around, then he slowly starts to realize what the voice really is.

Carnifex
"Wait... that sound... it's you again."

[incomprehensible language]

Carnifex
"Wait, what?! But I serve a deity already..."

[incomprehensible language]

Carnifex
"I see... so that was her plan all along... I need to warn Jack... Please understand, he's my kin. Even though I met him recently, I've grown fond of his friendship. Please, allow me to at least talk to him before I depart."

Carnifex
"Thank you for the permission and I'm honoured by your offer. I accept."

Suddenly the voice stops talking and Carnifex starts to think.

Carnifex
"Well, it looks like things got a bit more complicated..."

Carnifex packs the plants in his bone basket. Before he departs for the hut to warn Jack, he notices some noises in the distance, slowly amping up in volume, like a group of people are heading towards his location.

Carnifex quickly throws his ritual bones all around the surrounding area and hides in the nearby vegetation.

Carnifex
"If the group has any hostile intentions, they will be met with a nasty surprise."

After a few moments a familiar face emerges from the nearby bushes, followed by two Yuni guards.

Belua
"Hmm, I think we're lost.", she said in a sad tone

Yuni 1
"Don't worry Lady Belua, we got your back. Casius should be around here somewhere."

Yuni 2
"Yeah, good thing it's night time, we have heightened senses during this period, so we'll find it in no time."

Carnifex spots the group, he thinks to himself.

Carnifex
[Hmm, these are Yuni cats. What are they doing so far away from Feralia... Well, better reveal myself, they have impeccable senses, better not make it look like an ambush.]

Carnifex slowly reveals himself. The Yuni's are startled by his appearance. They draw their weapons.

Carnifex
"Greetings. I am a Buzzer who lives in these lands. I mean you no harm."

Yuni 1
"You don't say... I've heard Buzzer's have an affinity for cat meat...", he grips his sword

Carnifex
"Please, I do not wish any trouble."

Belua
"Lower your weapons, you two! I can't believe you guys, the Buzzer stated his business. Haven't you learned anything from me?", she said in a frustrated tone

Yuni 1 and Yuni 2
"Sorry Lady Belua...", they both lower their weapons and look towards the ground in shame.

Belua
"I am sorry for this..."

Carnifex
"No need to apologize. I understand their fear."

Belua
"Would you be so kind to give directions towards Casius. We are looking for someone."

Belua pulls out a leather map and asks Carnifex for help. He approaches Belua and adds the city to the map.

Belua
"Thank you kindly. Alright, we'll be on our way. "

Belua points at one of the Yuni cats.

Belua
"Can you go check if Luna is ok?"

The Yuni quickly runs towards Luna in the distance, informing her that they found directions. They both join Carnifex. At that moment, once Carnifex saw Luna, his face went pale.

Luna Bellus
"Oh, you must be the person who helped us. Thank you.", she said with a warm smile

Suddenly Carnifex clenches his claws and starts emanating a loud buzzing sound. The ritual bones around the place start to glow.

Carnifex
"You... I guess you don't remember me..."

Luna Bellus
"I'm sorry, have we met before?", she said with a confused smile

"Hmhm... let me refresh your memory..."

You didn't miss something and Carnifex is not Jack from the past. I know that I'm making a faux pas when it comes to storytelling, but Carnifex has his own troubled past with the Lunar Priesthood, and it looks like we are going to dig into that.

The following scene happened 1 hour before Jack returned from the dinner party with Umbra. Basically we are seeing what happened with Carnifex while Umbra/Jack/Xeri/Gat are on the dinner party.

Luna slowly starts to realize what he's talking about, her face going pale in shock.

[4 years ago, somewhere in a dark Lunar research lab]

Two acolytes in Lunar robes approach a research table. On it, a man, losing his humanity due to insect mutations.

Lunar Acolyte
"So Luna, shall we begin?"

Luna Bellus
"Yes, let's research on this filth."

After a few moments of poking with various sharp objects, drawing blood and conducting experiments, they ungag and pull the bag off the person's head.

Carnifex
"YOU SICK FUCKS, I WILL KILL YOU!"

Luna grabs the surgical hammer and bashes the poor Buzzer in the face, breaking a few teeth, blood gushing out of his mouth.

Luna Bellus
"That's no way to talk to a Lunar priestess.", she said in a calm voice

The Buzzer groans in pain, trying to breathe.

Lunar Acolyte
"So, the latest research has shown that we are able to harness the regenerative powers of the Buzzers, but we need to make some more tests. Apply the saw to the healthy leg. Also gag him again, I hate it when the filth screams."

Luna gags the Buzzer. Carnifex' breathing rapidly speeds up, fearing the next procedure. Luna slowly puts the hacksaw on his healthy leg and starts to saw it off. Muffled screams echo through the room. However, suddenly the blood from the freshly sawn off leg forms a solid spike, like it froze in an instant.

Lunar Acolyte
"WHAT IN THE..."

The coagulated blood spike pierces the Acolyte's head, killing her instantly. Luna grabs the surgical knife and tires to kill Carnifex. More blood gushes out of his leg and forms a tentacle that hits Luna, sending her flying across the room. She hits the wall, the force of the throw stuns her for a few moments. The blood tentacle unties Carnifex and busts the door open.

Suddenly a horrifying outworldish voice starts to talk to Carnifex.

Carnifex
"Aggghhh, my leg..."

Carnifex
"Who, what... what is going... on..."

The blood tentacle points towards the opened door.

Carnifex
"I see... thank you..."

Carnifex, pushes himself off the table. He takes the nearby medical crutch and uses it to substitute his missing leg. He hastily exits the dungeon

"The time for revenge has come!"

"My time has finally come!"

With those words, the sharp ritual bones rise in the sky then suddenly drop to the floor. The Yuni guards draw their weapons, then start laughing.

Yuni 1
"Hah, what a foolish idiot. Well, seeing that you want to kill us, it's time for you to die..."

Yuni 2
"Hey, you're... your nose is bleeding."

The Yuni wipes his nose to see a little blood on his hand as a result.

Yuni 1
"Eh, I'm just exited to kill this insolent filth. Well, time to..."

Suddenly the droplets from his hand hastily evaporate, forming a thick fog around the scene.

Yuni 1
"Hey... what the hell..."

Suddenly strange and outworldish noises start to radiate within the scene. Sounds of laughter, painful crying, various instruments can be heard playing a tune, however it is all out of sync, none of the tunes form a coherent melody, rather a rhapsody of chaos and madness. Slowly a low reverberating hum starts to induce fear into the heart of the Yuni squad. The fog slowly engulfing the sky, blocking the moonlight.

Yuni 2
"What the hell is going on?! Ugh... what..."

The Yuni suddenly starts to cry as she vomits blood, then her ears, eyes and nose start to heavily bleed.

Yuni 2
"Someone help me!"

Her ribcage explode and arm explode, like the blood is trying to forcefully exit her organism.

Yuni 1
"No! I don't want to die!"

The Yuni tries to run away, but with the first step, his legs violently detach from his body, the guts and internal organs start to flow out of his body as he screams in pain and fear.

Luna Bellus
"No, stop! Don't hurt them!"

Suddenly Luna vomits blood, bleeding from her eyes and nose. She falls to the ground.

Belua
"Stop this madness!"

Belua forms a lunar crystal in her hand and charges towards Carnifex. He summons a blood tentacle from the flowing Yuni guardsmen's blood and hits Belua, sending her to the ground.

Carnifex slowly starts to walk towards Luna.

Belua
"STOP! LEAVE HER ALONE!"

Carnifex hits her again to shut her up. He stands above Luna, looking into her eyes.

Carnifex
"Oh how I waited for this day. To see the same fear and desperation in your eyes... the same way I looked at you when you were sawing my leg off."

Luna Bellus
"Please... kill me if you want, but spare her...", she said while crying, pointing at Belua

Carnifex
"Pathetic... considering the circumstances, at least have some dignity in your death. I would ask why did you do this to me. But what's the point since I already know the answer. You sick filth will do anything to quench your deviant thirst for knowledge. Suffer, you worm."

"Oh? You don't want me to kill her? Ah, don't worry, I won't kill her. I'll just make you watch as I saw her leg off... then I'll kill her."

Carnifex slowly starts walking towards Belua

Luna Bellus
"NO! STOP!"

Luna musters some strength and lunges towards Carnifex. Tackling him to the ground. However, she is too fatigued to do anything else, due to the blood loss. Carnifex kicks her in the head, making Luna groan in pain, chipping a tooth or two.

Carnifex
"It isn't a hammer, but still, it hurts."

Carnifex looks at Luna as her breathing start to slow down, as she continues to vomit blood.

Carnifex
"Damn it, at this rate you'll die on your own. No.... I want to kill you with my own hand. Rot in hell, you filth."

As Carnifex is about to deal the finishing strike, Belua screams.

Belua
"Stay away from her.... stay away from my mother!"

Carnifex
"Mother?", he asks in confusion

In that moment of confusion, Belua clasps her hands and starts to cry and yell.

Belua
"Oh goddess, please, grant me your power..."

Suddenly a huge ray of moonlight pierces the blood fog and bathes Belua in glittering beauty. Suddenly her third eye opens and blue veins puncture her forehead. She extends her arms and screams. A humongous blast of Lunar energy shoots towards Carnifex.

Carnifex
"WHAT THE..."

The moonlight blast hits Carnifex, picking him up and pushing him into the distance. The sheer unstoppable force starts to rip trees and boulders in it's path, destroying literally everything in front of it. Almost a mile long path of pure destruction left behind.

Belua's third eye closes as she falls to the ground from exhaustion. The blood fog vanishes and the cold spring breeze returns tranquillity to the previous horrifying situation.

Belua slowly rises form the ground and notices Luna on the floor. She continues to cry.

Belua
"No... please Luna... don't die, mother...", she said with a lump in her throat, tears flowing down her face


We play as Belua now.

Then slowly rip Belua in half, bottom up, to let her suffer one of the most painful and gorey deaths imaginable. Drag her close to Luna to let her see her friend's reactions up close; close enough to let her imagine the sight every night for the rest of her life, to have nightmares about it. We want it so that even if we die, we've left a mark on her that will never go away.

Well, now all you prudish anons can rest easy, knowing that in fact it was not a dream. The story doesn't end here, it's a huge plot point for Dominium Astrum. Consider that Belua is a successful Yuni/Human hybrid. What is Lua planning for the future? What does she really know about the Deity War?

Also, one very important thing, that Luna is a thicc MILF now

Really loved this Episode. I like that the other gods are also entering the playing field now. Im kind of sad that Jack isnt embracing the violence and staying with xeri but so be it. Unfortunatly most people here are forgetting that confrontation is inevitable since THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE (disregarding temporary alliences). I have to admit that i didnt see the luna twist coming but im enjoying her character development. Im looking forward to the next quest already. Whey more fun then writing shit for Uni right now.

A really, REALLY, good point. And I will explain why it feels like it was irrelevant, and why it WASN'T irrelevant. Here is what would happen:

That lead to the scene where Gat felt sorry for Luna and what happened. In that moment a spark of love ignited Gat's heart, and he did everything to comfort Luna, even the barb retraction. This created a child out of love, which was Belua. A kind and motherly character.

That WOULD HAVE led to the scene where Gat was consumed by lust, where he didn't think about Luna, but rather himself. In that moment, lust would overwhelm his heart, the barbs would have stayed on. Luna would realize how much it hurt and would beg Gat to stop, but he wouldn't stop, fire in his eyes and his heart beating for Luna's pain. That would lead to a child out of lust/rape, Belua would have been a totally different character. More like her father in a way.

Actually, on the topic of plot and lore... Well, little ol' me doesn't want to brag, but rarely does something happen in this quest that is a coincidence. Almost all plot related stuff is carefully thought through. The quest is filled with hints and foreshadowing. Even if something feels off or doesn't feel right, it's has a good explanation on why that is. Of course, I'm not saying that I'm perfect, I can make mistakes, but the point is that I really do care and invest A LOT of time into lore and world building and setting up twists that feel believable and are not just pulled out of thin air.

This is a more darker themed setting. Rarely will we find characters that aren't deeply fucked up. Most, if not all of them have heavy burdens. It will be fun to see which characters will learn and grow in the end and which will continue to rot in their own downfall.

But in short, what we do in previous scenes, continues in the future. Some decisions might not seem important, but they slowly start to snowball, and we get to the point where we finally put the last straw that breaks the camel's back, so to speak.

Then again maybe we can get a hold of the higher being through tricks and treachery to change the rules of nature. We beat umbra to a bloody pulp before. Jack notices that the explosions have stopped, as dark smoke starts to rise in the distance.

"It looks they finished the job."

He shifts his gaze towards the scorched earth left behind by the Lunar blast.

Jack starts to run down the path.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the blast path

Belua slowly crawls towards Luna. She checks on the Yuni guards, both dead. Belua starts to cry as she checks if Luna is still breathing.

Suddenly something grabs Jack's leg, making him trip and fall to the ground. Jack looks at the thing that's enveloping his leg, looks like the same tendril inside him demon mouth. It slowly lets go and slithers towards the nearby vegetation. A familiar face emerges.

"Xeri! Where have you been... also, where's Gat?"

Xeri slowly walks towards Jack and slaps him hard, making his nose bleed.

Tell Xeri that we have a unique form of love that needs to be shared with all that we truly love, just as she has a form of love that include inflicting pain unto the person loved. Tears slowly start to build up in Jack's eyes.

Xeri smiles and licks her lips. She looks at Jack in a disturbed way, like her mind is broken, slipping into a trance.

Jack draws the bone blade and hides it behind his back. Xeri launches the tendril from her hand and grabs Jack's leg again, she pulls with quite some force, making him fall to the ground. She shoot another tendril from her other hand and disarms Jack, picking up the bone knife.

Xeriana pins him to the ground, kneeling above him, taking the bone knife and licking the blade. Jack tries to break free, but with everything that happened in the last 24 hours, he can't muster the strength to do so. Jack closes his eyes and accepts his fate.

Suddenly he feels a few droplets falling on his face. He opens his eyes to notice a devastated Xeriana crying.

"I love you, Jack...", she said with a lump in her throat

She bends down and gives Jack a gentle kiss on the lips. She sits up again and grasps the bone knife.

Xeri
"Goodbye, my love..."

She swings the blade and pierces her own heart. After a few seconds Xeri explodes in a swarm of crimson red butterflies that scatter all around, making the bone knife fall to the ground. The cold spring breeze makes them fly off in all directions, disappearing in the forest.

He sits up, tears flowing down his face, sobbing. Jack notices that something is touching his hand. He brings his palm to his face for inspection, only to notice a single crimson red butterfly sitting on his hand. After a few moments it flies away, leaving Jack alone in the forest.

Jack picks himself up and starts walking down the path again. After a few moments he starts to drag himself, broken both in mind and body. Tears flowing down his face, quietly sobbing.

"Why did she kiss me... after everything... why didn't she kill me? Is it just another trick, will she pop out of that bush and stab me in the gut..."

He continues walking down the path. Jack grabs his chest. No more warmth, no more Xeriana. After seven years, this is the first time that he doesn't feel her anymore. Jack stops.

"I don't feel her anymore... this feeling..."

Jack falls to the floor and starts to cry uncontrollably. Suddenly a dark portal opens, and a familiar face pops out of it.

Umbra
"Finally I found you! Good news, I learned how to materialize in the Mortal Rea..."

She's startled by Jack's cries of pain.

Umbra
"Jack!", she rushes towards his location, kneeling in front of him

"Jack, what's wrong?!"

She scans Jack's body for any injuries but everything seems fine. Jack reaches for her lap and grabs her leg tight. The depressing cries of emotional pain cause Umbra's eyes to slowly tear up. She gently pulls Jack towards her and embraces him.

Umbra
"Shh-shh-shh-shh, it's alright my love, I'm here.", she said in a quiet and caring tone, tears flowing down her eyes

After a few minutes, Jack calms down. Umbra slowly pats his head.

Jack Chitin
"It's over... she's gone... Gat's gone... Carinfex' gone... they all left... Gat found out about us.... and then he just left..."

Umbra lets out a worried sigh.

Jack Chitin
"I'm a monster..."

Umbra
"Hey, would a monster show this ugly lunatic that there is a place for her in this world? That someone loves her? If it weren't for you, I would be dead now. You could have left that bathroom, but you decided to help me."

Jack sits up and looks at Umbra face covered in tears.

"I'm sorry that I made you sad..."

Umbra
"Oh Jack... how can I be sad when you were the only one that embraced me when everybody else shunned me."

Jack hugs her, they spend some time embracing each other. After a few moments, they both stand up and dust themselves off. Umbra wraps her arms around Jacks neck and places her forehead onto his, looking into Jack's eyes.

Umbra
"So... we're alone now. Just he two of us, huh?"

Jack Chitin
"I don't need anybody else. All I want is your beautiful smile."

Umbra looks at Jack with a warm smile, tears flowing down her face. They slowly and gently kiss, enjoying their love for each other.

Alright guys, here's the recap post.

So, Casius has fallen. Xeri, Gat and Carnifex are MIA. Here's what we have in the near future. Tomorrow will be the last session for this week, where we will do a few things to prepare for the future.

After tomorrow, we'll have a 2-3 day hiatus. We'll get back on Sunday at the earliest or at Monday next week, at the latest. Now, why a hiatus? I need to prepare some stuff, and flesh out the lore a bit. We are taking a break from our familiar faces for a few sessions, and it's time to travel on the other side of Elysia.

The next arc is Sanctus arc, and boy will that be one hell of a scorching hot ride! We are gonna visit Inber province and the surrounding area, which is the warmest place in Elysia. There, the MIGHTY SUN reigns supreme.

And you know what that means, it's time to meet the god of sunburns and sick gainz! We will follow through Sanctus' past and we will meet some new faces that will play a role in the grand scheme of things. That's just the Solar deity theme, we might as well meet some of the new unknown deities and their champions..

In short, we are gonna mix things up, and let Jack and crew settle a bit. Don't worry, we'll return to them as soon as Sanctus arc is over.
