Welcome to legacy quest, a dungeon crawling adventure spanning several generations of heroes.

Your protagonists will die, permanently, but fear not! Before each hero embarks on their quest to free the land from evil, they marry and have children, ensuring their bloodline will not die with them, and providing the next intrepid adventurer to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors when they come of age.

Unfortunate and stupid heroes might face insta-kills, unwinnable situations, and general doom. The best and brightest will slowly progress through the dungeon, but will still likely face their inevitable death.

No one hero will beat the dungeon, only by building up a strong family of heroes, investing in your hometown/stronghold to acquire better resources, passing down knowledge, wealth, and loot.

Last time on legacy quest: >>312911
>We met our new hero, Aurora, daughter of Svard II.
>Aurora, a Lumino-Crusader demanded to carve her own path into the dungeon.
>She slew a necromancer, and barely escaped from his minions with her life.
>She escaped a timed puzzle at the very last second.
>After the world's loudest attempt to open a door roused a horde of orcs, our already badly injured hero met her demise.

But what about the village? Was it attacked by bandits? Did it survive? How will Aurora's child fare? Let's find out!

Three bumps to begin!
>>
Bump, glad I finally saw this as its starting!
>>
>>324823
Greetings! The Light Gods cometh my dear. They bring great bounties and treasure!
>>
>>324823
Let's roll
>>
While we wait for anons arrive:

Angorvil was indeed beset by menacing bandits. Fortunately, due to the financial aid and instructions Aurora provided before her untimely death, barricades were erected, and an experienced army captain brought to the village to train the militia.

Armed with simple bows and basic armour (provided by the newly arrived hunter/fletcher/bowyer and blacksmith), the Angorvil militia, led by Old Man Svard and Erik the Bold, drove the bandits off!

Casualties were reasonably light, but the bandits did manage to breach the defensive perimeter once, burning two of the village's large tents, and damaging the town hall...

Still, Angorvil survived, the militia raised from simple villagers settling disputes to bloodied heroes!
>>
Your father Erik is one of the most respected men in the village, second only to your grandfather. Old man Svard, with his loyal wife Tanwyn age gracefully, venerated by those around them. Although they have no real desire for power over their fellows, the village looks to them as unofficial leaders.

But enough history... Time to write a new chapter. Your chapter. As the latest in a dynasty of heroes, you have had somewhat of an unusual upbringing, let's see how you turned out.

Roll 1d2 for gender:
>1 - Male
>2 - Female

First correct roll gets it!

>>324858
Very well! Let's hope that our second female hero fares better than our first!

Raised by your father, his martial tendencies have rubbed off on you. But how were they expressed?

>Legionnaire - Preferring heavy armour and a shield, a legionnaire tends to open combat by hurling a heavy javelin, before acting the immovable object and waiting for their injured foes to come to them. Unable to use any other ranged weapons.
>Beserker - Fury is something you have in abundance, but you've learned to put it to good use. By channelling your rage you can reach an almost zen state, attacking everything around you with reckless abandon. Unable to use heavy armour.
>Champion - A champion relishes combat as an opportunity to prove themselves. Shunning the use of shields, a champion instead deals massive damage with huge two-handed weapons.

Voting begins! First to three!

But what is your name?

Erika. Erika is your name.

>>324938
Let us see if you can earn that title first.

As is tradition for your family, the dawning of the morning that you come of age has great significance. Your father greets you as you eat breakfast.

"Ready to meet your suitors?" He asks.

"After I've found some ale." you reply, "my head is pounding."

He frowns, but he can't criticise. It's from him that you got your alcohol dependence after all...

What sermon do you want? I already made one for when they leave.

>>325013
Just wait when they announce she's leaving and improvise
>>
Three of the male villages, dressed in their finest clothes stand before you:

>Feran - A scout in your father's militia. A nimble warrior who splits his time between his militia duties and training to hunt with the new bowyer.
>Jak - A perpetually smiling mage of some considerable talent. There are rumours that his arcane talents extend to things that many deem unsavoury though...
>Melvor - An urchin. Always in trouble, always escaping the consequences. Your father's militia suspect him to be a thief, but have never managed to catch him.

Vote! First to three!

Purify these torches so they may withstand the darkness. Gift them your valour, your charisma, your knowledge. So that they may progress where they're family has not. Assuming >>325067 is Melvor, that's three!

After some consideration, you step towards Melvor, and indicate that you've made your choice. Erik grimaces, and discretely hisses some threatening words into Melvor's ear, before the two of you retreat...

A year later - Angorvil, year 77
Having ensured the continuation of your bloodline, you prepare to leave the village, likely for the last time.

You head out, and greet the head priest, who begins the ritual of descent:

"Great Light God, protect this torch that seeks to spread your will into the bountiful dungeon. Give them your strength, your resolve, your kind ferocity. Allow this torch to tread in the dark realms so we may gain supplies to further your great will. Light the Trickster's lands, so they may gain great rewards to succeed in their quest, and vanquish all who oppose you. Purify these torches so they may withstand the darkness. Gift them your valour, your charisma, your knowledge, so that they may progress where their family has not. Allow them to learn and live so they may spread your flame. Now go my torch and bring blessings upon your family."

You sign your name in blood on the legacy scroll, and head towards the imposing stairs...

Final farewell - Note that a particularly bitter winter is predicted to strike this year:
>Repair those buildings! Build shelter!
>Hunt and harvest! You'll need the food!

You holler back your advice to the village. A pair of mages, under the watchful eye of Tanwyn, prepare the portal to Sanctuary Citadel ...

Old man Svard hurries up to you:

"I almost forgot. I want you to take this!"

He offers you some basic armour from the blacksmith, and his famous blade, Sleepyfire!
>Take all of the equipment.

Beserkers gain 4 HP per level, starting with the base 5 HP.

Beserkers learn to Induce Rage and Quell Rage at any time, as their passive ability. Outside of combat this is free. In combat it will cost 1 AP. Currently, you are calm.

When rage is active, the beserker gets +1 maximum attack per turn, +2 AP, +1 to damage, and +2 HP (which will disappear once no longer enraged, even if this kills you). The cost of this is -3 to all defensive rolls (subject to change if the class is imbalanced).

For the record, Erika gained this ability when she went from level 1 to level 2. You may gain other, once a day abilities with subsequent level ups.
>>
>>325308
>rage mode
>9 AP
>Can only attack 3 times

Still looking forward to this run
>>
Hey op, you have a million things going on, but if you get to a convenient point, can you tell us about the goblins? I want to know how their settlement is going.
>>
>>325319
Disregard me, I can't read
>>
>>325308
Why do we need a torch if we have a flaming sword?
>>
>>325319
Nope, maximum attack goes up by 1 as well!
>the beserker gets +1 maximum attack per turn

>>325329
At the moment, they're mostly keeping to themselves. Kazgrub led a group of militia in a heroic charge against the bandits, earning himself many ales, but other than that they've been quietly raiding the upper levels of the dungeon. There's a good chance there will be events involving them in the future though.

Erika, like her father, has alcohol tolerance . This causes her to lose 1 from her max AP when sober. The flipside of this is that she gains +1 to defensive rolls, and does 2.5x damage with crits when she's a little bit buzzed. Different alcoholic drinks will affect you for different amounts of time.

This isn't really meant to be an inherantly good or bad trait, but it's also not that carefully balanced. It's just meant to keep things interesting.
>>
>>325340
Im sure its because the sword is magic, and while it may not have any immediate effects on us, keeping it lit and active will ultimately drain us.
>>
>>325340
I mean you probably don't but it's just part of the standard adventurer's starting gear at this point.

>>325358 was meant to say alcohol dependance .
>>
>>325358
Oh good to hear. Im glad the goblins are still active.
>>

You head to the Djinni's portal, and ask him slightly desperately for alcohol. He offers you a few options:
>Flask of ale - Effects last for 1 room - 2 GP
>Flask of wine - Effects last for 2 rooms - 3 GP

Note that the types and cost of alcohol available may scale with level.
>>
>>325456
Oops, costs were meant to be 1 and 2 GP respectively.

I'll let you guys decide between you.

While you ponder, the djinni looks at you and says:

"I'm offering these cheap prices just this once. I'm making a loss here, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone who needs a drink so much."
>>
>>325481
What a bro.

Guys my vote for 3 units is because, most of the time, we don't get 2 fight rooms in a row. Being drunk for 2 rooms in a row is a "waste"
>>
>>325456
Buy three Ales.
>>
I don't think the wine is worth it.Better to get the ale.
Since 1room=1GP, the only difference between is we are forced to take them together with the 2nd option
We already know the next 5 rooms goes:
Fight (necromancer)
Puzzle (long room)
Fight (Orcs)
???
???

Its the same price either way but more flexible with ale.
>>
>>325485
>>325487
>>325496
You clean out his entire stock of ale, buying three flasks, and leaving your coin purse empty.

>>325496
For the record, seeing as your character has no way to know what comes ahead, I'm not guaranteeing that the rooms will be in the same order.

Ready to descend. Would you like to drink an ale before the first room? You may wait until you get there, but if you're in combat, it will take 1 AP.
>>
>>325505
Drink it now, we can feel that headache coming on

It's fine drinking after

1. Drink now
2. Drink after
>>
>>325525

>>
Rolled 1 (1d2)

Fuck it, OP's roll decides:
1 - Now
2 - Later
>>
You gather supplies from the sanctuary, and begin your journey to the next level of the dungeon...

Level up!
HP +4
AP +1
Max attacks stays at 3 (without rage mode)

Abilities (choose one):
>Furious strength - Your rage mode increases damage by a further +1 for the duration of one room. Extra strength may also be used in non-combat situations if relevant. To use this ability, it must be specified when activating rage mode.
>Raging whirlwind - 3 AP - An attack that hits all creatures adjacent to you for half of your base weapon damage (rounded up), with no roll to hit required.
>Unstoppable anger - 2 AP - Take half damage for the next round of enemy attacks.

You may currently only use your abilities once before resting (not counting normal rage mode).

Vote for new ability!
>>
>>325568
>Unstoppable anger
ABSOLUTE RAGE
>>
>>325568
HOLY SHIT WHIRLWIND, fucking OP!!
>>
>>325568
Raging Whirlwind.
>>
>>325568
>Raging whirlwind
>>
>>325576
Hopefully it's only overpowered in those rare opportune moments where you're completely surrounded. You might never get a chance to use it to its fullest extent!

That said, any of the abilities could be brokenly strong or weak, that's part of the reason that the classes are quite fluid at the moment, it means I can balance things at level ups, and quietly get rid of a previous class if it seems too strong.
>>
>>325588
3 AP sure kill on 1 very injured enemy is already very good. The bonus damage is bonus.
>>
Rolled 12, 9, 14, 15 = 50 (4d20)

>>325576
>>325579
>>325587
Done.

You finally emerge onto the next level, and chug an ale before opening the door...

Two skeletons stand ready to attack you, and behind them, a hooded figure.

Rolling initiatives: Erika, Hooded, Sword, No sword

Note that just because this room was first again, doesn't mean the rooms aren't randomised. Pure coincidence.
>>
>>325594
The "bonus" is a reduction dude, it says:
>hits all creatures adjacent to you for half of your base weapon damage (rounded up)
>half of your base weapon damage
>As in, you roll for damage and it is halved.

Sorry if this wasn't clear anon!
>>
>>325611
Damn we gonna get swarmed.
>>
>>325620
Oh we roll for damage... still good cause it is rounded up, should prob cost 4.
>>
Same thing again. I feel like we killed them all last time but didn't stick around to find out.

Run straight to the mage
Defend against the skells
>>
>>325635
Sory man, we are going 3rd and skells are gonna surround us.
>>
Rolled 16, 10, 8 = 34 (3d20)

The skeletons immediately charge towards you. The unarmed one attacks twice, while the one wielding a sword attacks once, then blocks.

Roll order:
Fists, Fists, Sword

To hit: 10 base + 1 for armour - 3 for rage = 8

QM's note: Yowch, Beserkers are pretty glass-cannony...
>>
>>325641
Jesus Christ
>>
Rolled 1, 2 = 3 (2d2)

>>325641
Forgot the +1 from being drunk, so actually needed a 9. Phew.
>>
>>325656
Specify if we can just walk away from the skells or if they tackle us or something
>>
>>325637
there are two of them, we can still get past on our AP no matter how they arrange themselves. Then on their 2nd attack they will still attack us hence the defense.
I was aware of turn order it doesn't change strategy
>>
Let's just kill them. Attack indiscriminately.
>>
>>325663
My doubt was >>325660

>>325668
Pretty sure pajama pants can simply revive them.
>>
>>325656
You parry one skeleton's sword slash, but the other pummels you twice with bony fists.

HP - 11/14
AP - 10

Move - 1 AP per square
Attack - 2 AP
Whirlwind - 3 AP
Block - 1 AP
Quell rage - 1 AP

Note that you may move away from the skeletons, but beware attacks of opportunity. The way it works in LQ is:
>If you are facing an enemy, they will not get any free attacks, as you're using strafing, and defensive footwork.
>If you're not facing an enemy (not the square immediately in front of you, or the one either side of that) they get one free attack for every square you move past them.
>Turning may be done freely, so you can back away from one enemy with no problems, however, with two enemies things are a bit more difficult.

CAPTCHA is making this pretty impossible...
>>
>>325682
Yeah I was afraid of this.

Gonna need a moment to think here.
>>
Due to CAPTCHA bumfuckery, plus time wasted waiting for the old thread to get bumps, I'll have to call it a day after this room. Really sorry anons. At least we'll be able to dive right back into the action tomorrow!

Update: I've been trying to post this since 20:33, if CAPTCHA issues don't improve, I legitimately will have to end the session early...

Rolled 8 (1d20)

Sorry anons, these rolls are so player killing that even I'm getting bored of them. I might have to remove the mage's one off flaming punch if this keeps happening.

The mage hits you and you feel a chill sensation as his magic burns your flesh.

The two skeletal minions rush over to you. Fortunately for you, the unarmed one moves first, and doesn't think tactically enough to let his sword-wielding ally take the attacking position. He swings his fist once.

9+ to hit because you're blocking Mr. Mage.

Forgot my ID. Also, *you're I typed like a mong.
>>
>>325806
Ummm, correct. Wow.

Roll 4d3 for damage, with a +1 from sword and a further +1 from rage on each!

QM's note: I guess this is the cannon end of glass cannon...
>>
Rolled 3, 3, 3, 2 = 11 (4d3)

>>325826
Ok guys watch this. We'r killin pajamas and finishing bones before he even realises what happened. You just gotta believe...
>>
19 damage in one go.
So that's the mage dead for sure and maybe even the skelly.
>>
>>325833
my god those rolls.
>>
>>325833
>>325877
Fugg... These guys are fucked even though there's some behind the scenes damage resistance because:
>Sword
>Skellies

You unleash your rage upon your foes. In two powerful swipes the mage falls to the floor. The skeletons stagger, dazed, and you cut the one closest to you down to a pile of shattered bones!

The remaining skeleton lurches into action, but moves sluggishly...

>Escape room
>Finish combat
>>
Finish combat. We prolly need to loot pajama-man to stop the revive
>>
>>325901
FINISH HIM!
>>
>>325901
FINISH HIM
>>
>>325901
Finish!!

Damn, I aint rolling anymore today, wasted all my luck already.
>>
>>325909
Nah, the light on their eye cavities is gone.
>>
Rolled 9 (1d20)

>>325909
>>325910
>>325912
You decide to stay, and see this through to the end! The remaining sluggish skeleton closes the distance between you, attacks once, and blocks.

10+ to hit, because you're blocking in his direction.
>>
>>325925
Welp, your turn...
>>
>>325925
This is the turning point guys. We Svard 2.0 now
>>
>>325930
do we roll
>>
>>325932
You mean Svard II 2.0? Cause Svard I didn't do so hot.
>>
>>325930
Straight up shank a bitch.
>>
Rolled 14, 14, 12, 5 = 45 (4d20)

>>325930
We attack 4 times yes?
>>
>>325930
Dice gods are back. Attack all the way.
>>
>>325936
>Cause Svard I didn't do so hot
Dude had a bloody stick with a nail on it, he's a legend!

>>325945
Damn son, savage.
>>
>>325568
>Level up!
>HP +4
I assume it's +5 here, hence 9+5=14

>>325682
And here we forgot the +2HP from rage, that we lose at the end?
>>
Rolled 2, 2, 3 = 7 (3d3)

>>325945
3d3 damage, right?
>>
>>325945
>>326009
Love the rolls but you should always wait for OP
>>
>>326009
So.... 13 damage? Wow.
>>
Doesn't matter what we roll on that one. even if all are 1 that would still be 9 damage, enough to kill it.
>>
The skeleton doesn't last a second against your unbridled fury! You shatter him into fragments.

>>325960
Nah, it was +4 on level up, I just accidentally did +1 from berserk instead of +2
>>
>>326031
Forgetting the behind the scenes damage resistance, but yeah, he dead.

What now?
>>
>>326051
loot corpses
>>
Kick a corpse and give a witty one liner

Then loot
>>
>>326051
Loot all corpses
>>
>>326095
You kick one of the skeleton corpses and say:
"I was trying for a skeleton-mocking one liner, but I just can't think of anything humerus..."

Looting the skeletons and skeletal mage nets you:
Bone shards (4)
A plain black cloak

After looking around and seeing nothing interesting, Aurora prepares to continue her journey into the depths of the dungeon...

TO BE CONTINUED...

That's all for today folks, hope you've had a wonderful time! Feedback always welcome, and suggestions are all at least considered.

Special mention to >>325833 >>325945 and >>326009 for absolutely wrecking my skellies, and to >>325042 for their sermons, which I hope to see more of. Congratulations are also due for those of you who helped save the village from bandits by investing in defences last time. Hope to see all of you and more back here tomorrow!
>>
>>326148
I helped save the village :D
>>
>>326148
What was the special mechanism in this room you hinted last time?
>>
>>326176
Oh I just meant the mechanics of how the skeletons are effected by the presence/absence of the mage. Bearing in mind that the resurrection thing is purely hypothesis from anons, never proven.

You did get to see this time that when the mage was dead the skellies AP halved though.
>>
>>326195
Oh, I thought there was a way to down the bridge or something.
>>
>>326148
:3

What sermon do you need now?
>>
>>326303
Whatever you think is appropriate, I'm not much of a preacher!
>>
>>326148
>Aurora
>>
>>326328

>>335142
Ready to roll guys!

Having easily slain the undead fiends you faced in the first room, you journey onward until you find the next room...

Let's keep this bumped so that people know we're alive!
>>
>>335165
I'm not sure if anyone but OP can bump threads on /qst/ but I'll try anyway.
>>
>>335165
This room is old rigjt? Wont it autosage soon?

>>335176
I can't actually remember how many days before autosage on /qst/, but you might be right. I can always start a new thread.

Sorry for the delay, photoshop crashed and wiped a few of my recent files... Erika has sleeves again now, because the newer sprite got wiped.

Herosheet (without bonuses from rage) attached.

>>
>>335185
Go to the desk
>>
>>335185
Its also an American holiday today, OP so it might be slower
>>
>>335188
>>335191
Oh shit, I rused myself into creating a new thread, for some reason I thought we'd autosaged. OP is a moron, sorry guys.

New thread, sorry for unnecessary switch:
>>335193
>>
>>335195
Well there's a reasonable number of you guys posting already, so let's hope for the best. Happy Independence Day to all you American anons.
