You spawn in Ancient Rome

You spawn in a crowded place, something like a market but surrounded by important buildings, it's the Forum. Everywhere, merchants running small stands to sell various luxuries, group of people discussing politics, some kids imitating gladiators. Wandering the place, you listen to snatches of conversations, the word "Octavius" seems to be the main topic of many political discussions. It appears you traveled back in time to witness the son of Caesar becoming the first emperor of Rome.

Your inventory
-red cotton t-shirt
-pair of jeans
-sport shoes
-smartphone
-key

You grow confident in your latin but the sun is setting over the seven hills, what's your next move ?

>selling one item of your inventory (tell which one)
>propose your service as a craftman (what skill do you have)
>challenge a gladiator to prove your worth (roll a dice+1d2)

As a craftsman.. hmm we would rather be suited to maths and science.

Also we'd be pretty good looking since modern human

The merchant seems puzzled, asking himself if he should treat you as a rich peregrinus or a runaway slave who stole his master clothes. Anyway with such expensive (red was soooo expensive) and reffined attire (smooth cotton 1800 years before the invention of the shelling machine), there's no way you could be a slave. More like a famous craftman from overseas who try to make his debut in Rome.

>You didn't sell your clothes
>You didn't collect 60 sesters
>You kept a +40 charisma bonus

You walk away from the Forum with him to his nearby shop on street level of an insulae. He asks if you have anywhere to stay and propose an appartment on the second floor.

Tomorow you begin in his blacksmith workshop, as a cashier since no craftman need to know mathematics like an accountant. However as a scientist, you hope to give few tips to other workers.

You focus your thoughts on your History lessons, you remember that slaves have radically changed the economy of Rome, and that poor plebeian farmers can't compete against giant slaves farms owned by the praticians. Cheap grains from the recently captured provinces have made them bankrupt. Since you are incredibly lucky you also remember two major events :

>Tiberius, quells revolts in Germania, but following the union of the tribes in 4 years a pact of non-aggression and friendship will be signed.
>In 6 years, a food shortage will make Augustus doubles the grain rations distributed to the people and a catastrophic fire will occurs.

You go to sleep, haunted by all the sci-fi novels you read on time travel, the fate of the Roman Empire on your shoulders, can you really alter the course of History ?
>Sanity -10, Charisma -10
You wake up with the sun and head straight for the shop, other tenants of the insulae wonder who you are and don't offer you a breakfast
>Hunger +10, Charisma -10
Taking your job of cashier very seriously, you soon realizes how boring it really is. It's mainly farmer and other craftman asking if their tools are ready are not. The slaves are not working the hammer fast enough. (if only there were some kind of automated press to replace the manpowered hammer). A small group of young Romans are heading toward the shop, a centurion leading them. They noticed your bright red t-shirt (just like the Legion) and ask you to take an order. These people seems to be praticians who want to equip themselves to do their duty in the Legion. Manipulating your abbacus and the Julius calendar with ease you manage to register a big order for the merchant. It's a good deal, not the greatest ever made, but you proved your worth. You can take your afternoon with 4 sesters + 10 sesters of bonus. What now ?

The Public Baths are where people from various classes meet each other, they eat, dance, feast, sing and of course bath... It's nothing like you ever imagined, everything seems to real and down to earth, almost as if you were at a pool party. However... something history books never mentioned was how FILFTHY romans were. They just use hot water to clean the dirt on their body and it's not really effective. You notice the group of young legionaries who bought all their set at the shop, eating grappes from young ladies on tricliniums. There is also someone speaking ancient greek with an the unmistakable tanned skin of a sailor.

The product is of incredible quality and after a demonstration you already have tons of commands. Maybe you should start your own business. Three brothers from a rich pratician family and the only son of a senator, they are what you would call the upper class of Roman society but somehow find conversation to be pleasant in your company. You have been cordially invited to their dinner which is also the good bye party for the three brothers before joigning the Legion.

When you are above average the results of social interactions are better than if you weren't, etc... If you loose the t-shirt you loose the +40 effect, hence taking the full -30 effect.

The dice roll is absolute, total, randomness. It's wether a super awesome outcome or a catastrophic one.

You enter the villa of the three brothers family, a luxury banquet awaits the guests : crabs, fruits, meat (a ton of meat which commoners couldn't afford) and the plat de résistance a "Shield of Minerva", composed of pike liver, brains of pheasant and peacock, flamingo tongue, and lamprey milt, there is even boiled snails. Some slaves bring plates to people couching in their tricliniums mixing their favorites dishes, other entertain the guests with dances, music... Not really different than a tv dinner.

Your bright red t-shirt makes you stand out, but with the jean you are often mistaken for a Gaul slave, or a worker. Since the three brother start to wonder why you didn't change for the party. You can't approach them.

The Praefectii seems like a very curious guys, not much of a fighter he knows how to speak Greek is quite fond of alchemy. As a matter of fact he is a supporter of the atomist theory introduced in Rome by Lucretius Carus, his great grand father. The young Carus thinks that epicurism and the austere traditional lifestyle supported by Caton are not irreconcilable. Maybe he will save Rome from its decadent ways in the future.

Your expedition to the volcano was rather tiring, you nearly set fire to your poor rubber shoes, not talking about smell of your shirt from all the sweat, but FINALLY !... You got your sulphur to create 10 kg of black powder. You lack of time, Carus is about to leave Rome. Gathering all your creation in a sealed jar you meet him for an arranged demonstration. Unfortunatly, time is missing, there is no point in joigning the Legion with him since the ingredient were all used... However Carus arranges a meeting with a Tribunus Cohortis charged of recruiting auxiliary specialised in unconventional warfare. You made your farewell to your friend.

You get back to work in the blacksmithworkshop and help the merchant run his business with your incredible skill at manipulating the abacus. Addition, subtraction, multiplication, they have no secrets for someone who just invented black powder ! However, you still stink like rotten eggs, so you have to work the whole day to get your 10 sesterces.

Sun is setting, people start partying, a delicate perfume of barbecue rise from the rich villa. You wish you were invited to one of them again but instead of going to the public baths you decided to make a soap again and use it with the running water in your insulae. Getting rid of this stench on your body was easy but doing the laundry was exhausting. You wish you had a wife or a slave...

>You didn't repair your shoes

Disgust -10, Charisma +10

After experimenting the famous Roman plumbing with running water you HAVE TO use the public toilets, you know... just out of curiosity...

Historians seem to have vasyly overrated them...

They are not cleaned very often, you have to do the flushing yourself, people wipe themselves with the same sponge. Looking inside the lattrine you notice worms and their should probably be other parasite eyes cannot see. Disgusted you go back to the insulae and try to use the local toilet, it's much cleaner... However you remember about John Snow (the first epidemiologist, not some fictional character) and get terrified at the idea that waste are not flushed out in the sewage but in a septic pit... near the water well. You couldn't save the XVII, XVIII, and XIX legions from Teutobourg, but you can still prevent the epidemic.

With a letter of recommandation from the merchant you head for pratrician villa to become the tutor of the youngest son. You are not really lucky on that one, the poor boy is kind of retarded, but you get your daily wage of 10 sesterces at least. You probably could had more luck if you didn't spill nonsense about arabic numbers.

>Arabic number will never be introduced in Ancient Rome
Disappointment +30, intelligence -30

Roman Army will never use it, but maybe you can train your own grenadier later...

You spend the whole morning trying to teach the boy how to count potatoes... euh I mean counting sheep (since the potatoe come America) and use your money to buy olive oil. Now you just have to gather some suaeda maritima and lavanda. Bruning the first one you get enough caustic soda to act as a teleshopping guy.

"Approach citizens, foreigners and slaves ! And behold the miraculous powder I bring from our recently captured provinces ! From Syria to Gaul they use this one weird trick to get rid of filth... Get beautiful hairs like a the most exotic barbarian girl, clean your armors with one fast whipe and wait... THERE'S MORE !!!"

You spread the powder on the floor of the latrinium and in the sewage then flush some water... Instantly, the dirt disapears. No more parasites, no more germs. You even made some soap to sell in a stand near by.

>You feel like Billy Mays
Happiness +30, Charisma +30

A patrol of praetorian is trying to disperse the crowd. In their dark and purple armor, you know something terrible will happen to you. You are rushed to the villa of a rich merchant. Waiting in a room full of papyrus you gaze at the schematic of Roman plumbing. As you thought, it's terrible. Roman were afraid to connect their personal waste disposal to the sewage because of the smell.

After discussing all the afternoon, you manage to get a very small land concession to grow your plants and a daily supply of olive oil. You are now able to produce one (1) soap per day and one (1) kg of caustic soda and sell them for 10 and 20 sesterces, you also manage to spare some for your daily consumption.

You could go to the Senate to present your reform on public sanitation, but it's only possible if you max your three stats first. You have to hurry, maybe use a subterfuge to temporarly raise them, you have three days to do so.

You manage to raise your charisma and intelligence levels enough, but fail to be above average in strengh. Roman senators are not really impressed by a weakling like you... The military branch of the senators leave the senate and don't listen to your speech, you are now alone with the scientists and administrators.

if the military were there they would have generalised the use of soap in camps, thus greatly improving the soldiers health and advancing of few km every frontiers of the empire

Scientists are quite impressed by your caustic soda. You told them people had to take a shower before entering the baths and use soap (japanese style baths). Thermae are now cleaner and the water almost cristal clear.

Morever, now with a proper technique to clean the sewage administrator are absolutely charmed and order a vast renovation work on public and personal latriniums. Water well will never be a vector of propagation of cholera.

It's here ! HEMATITE ! You found a 35% rich non-phosphorus iron deposit. It's poor quality iron, but you can enrich it with the very cost saving Bessemer process. Not only this process just use oxygen in the air to purify ore, but even a non-qualified worker can operate it just by looking at the color of the flames. Soon you will be able to produce very high quality steel for a very low price.

Meanwhile... You are still lost and naked... You gather few cristals of hematite for your experiences, what now ?

The right to defend oneself without fear of vengeance, the concept of freedom and non-ownership of people, the right to own and defend your land for everyone, all this beautiful concepts this is here that they are born ! One Elba Island.

The tyrannic governor of the Island is cast away into the sea and you manage to spare the lives of Roman soldiers. "No man has the right to rule over another man". You send them back to Rome in a small ship, with their arms and banners. You are elected chief of a small tribe of this multi-ethnic former slaves.

A pirate ship is approaching, they intended to raid the island and ransom Rome for the live of their governor. The Scicilian pirate is quite impress by your knwoledge of the mediterranea and how you treated the governor. He said that they lack people like you on the Adriatic sea. There is this town causing problem to the pirates, something like Altinum or Venice or whatever...

If the help of your little army you make some very high temperature furnace using firestone and start the Bessemer purification process of iron ore. The flames on top change several times of color, indicating the different steps. Then you have it. Bypassing hundreds of years of research in alchemy, ceramic and mettalurgy trhough trial and failure, you just produced high quality steel. You manage to spare some for the island.

You start to talk metallurgy with the Greeks, they are not really impressed with your new theory on the elements but decide to trust on electricity you since you knew how to make steel. Spaniards get bored and leave the island, they don't see what they can accomplish here.

The trade went well, you also asked your crew to trade some Hemimorphite in Massilia and gather more Suaeda maritima to produce caustic soda, just so you can extract Zinc from the first. With enough Zinc and Copper, you made a Volta battery and few electrical coils. The Greeks instantly turns into Geeks of electricity, they invent a small rotatory motor, a piezoelectric buzz, a filament which burn instantly. If you don't stop them they will disperse too much.

Which of this invention isn't worth your time ?
>rotatory motor

What I would suggest is building a water Mill. Showing roman officials. Make a contract to supply them with electrical mills and then produce light bulbs. Draw up a roman legal document for the idea of lights and electricity become rich marry into high influence family use influence to get arminius placed in a hellhole like eqypt and then Bring gunpowder to an weaponry state to sell to rome to bring down the germans. Start a convo to bring about the end of white slavery and only enslave nibbas. because removing slavery at this point is impossible and nibbas dont have a kingdom to war with rome but white tribes and such can rise up.

The Greek who comes up with the idea of beeping gadget is disapointed. He made two of them, when he press the button on the first, the second makes a buzzing noise even if they aren't connected by a wire. What a stupid invention he thought, it's not like you need your scouts to communicate instantly with the vanguard of an army. He throws his invention into the sea.

You produce some wind mills and attach a Volta battery to them, at night you have now all your coast and all the villas bathing in electric light. Speaking about villa, you distributed the land fairly among your followers and start to write your Constitution based on the principles of your revolution.

Ok, this is what would have happened with the women choice currently with a majority of "2" rolls
The pirate brings you the most beautiful creature of the mediterranea. They are so pretty it hurts a little inside, a-are they actually mermaid ?... nhaaa...

They are so pilite and elegant too, where did he find them ? And why someone would want to be separated from these angels ? After a short welcome party on the beach everyone find a girl to bring back home. Even the Greek boy ending up with a girl two years his elder and who find him cute.

This thing is... THEY HAD SYPHILIS.

You have now to urgently develop peniciline to save your life and your followers, but Rome is attacking ! With no other choice you flee to Masillia and ask the Gauls for cheeses with molds...

Actually...

You send the pirate ship in Naple to get your sulphur and as soon as it returns you have to decide how you are going to use this black powder. Naturally, you go for cannons. What could go wrong ? Everybody can operate a cannon right ? RIGHT ? The night take over the island and everyone return to his home... alone...

It takes a dozen of try to target just under the waterline only one galley. It sinks very fast and the survivors and up on the beach. Same for the second except this time it takes all your reserve of black powder. It gives plenty of time to think to the commander of the last galley, he decided to make a tactical retreat and inform Rome of what he saw.

So, I think that we're basically locked down for the options on days 2 and 3, but what I propose, is that we tell the Emperor our business model.

We talk in private, saying that they just traded their old Master for us. They're still by all technicality slaves, as we can enforce our will onto them via with others via our immense charisma. We let them THINK they're free, when really their labor is not meant to build themselves up as they are lead to believe, but build our glory and benefit as a bonus. Propose we do this for ALL slaves in the Empire! They're still slaves, they can't afford a house, but they have a "salary", which they can pump into the economy. Add in the bonus of our inventions, canons, light bulbs, better means of production, and Rome will enter a golden age the likes of which it had never seen...

The negociation will be easier if you try a commercial approach with Rome

Spending your last day producing a vast amount of the same products you also created the supply. However, the island is defensless, no weapons, no mercenaries, no sabotaging on the Roman fleet and the source of sulphur was too far to make black powder on time. On the third day you spot 10 galleys in the distance. It seems that using normal cannonballs didn't impress them back then, they believe you just used very accurate catapults and got lucky on the three galleys. The commander of the fleet demand you to surrender.

Curiously they don't want to totally annhilate you, maybe some senators heard about you have to offer to Rome. Reluctantly you leave the island and is escorted in the senate.

The emperor is here, he watches as you negotiate a trade agreement between Elba and Rome. You can't keep the island, a Roman garnison will be permanently stationned on it, most of your followers will flee the island. They didn't stay just for you, they thought you would defeat Rome or at least propose something different... They were wrong. However, with the empire supplying slaves, charcoals for the furnaces and Hemimorphite for the zinc, the island operates itself alone. Rome relies now on electricity for lighting instead of fire.

Spending your sesterces to ride a carriage and start your journey south to Naples or to be more accurate one of the most famous city of the Roman Empire... Pompeii... The city is home of about thirty thousand people, the soil is fertile, the economy is blooming thanks to its strategic location. Everything destined Pompeii to be a major province capital of this area rich in sulphur.

Spending the rest of your money you buy flour and eggs to make pastas, a simple rectangle of fazzoletti. You set a stand just outside the arena and start distributing your super "Roman" noodles, something "fresh out of the capital". With the rich seasoning of the region there are all kinds of spicy noodles, it's actually quite refreshing and you remember the twenty first century.

>Actually some good food

Some centurion is intrigued by your pasta. Is this really made from that yellow dry leaf ? Of course it is, it can even last one year before getting spoiled, all it needs is boiled water. Merchant are also very interested by your invention which some of them have seen made in far east. Tonight, you are not going to be alone with your noodle, you have been invited to multiple parties.

So you came here for sulphur and head to the volcano which you know will erupt in 50 years or so, but you also notice how volcanic ashes has made the soil more fertile. For the 50 next years, there could be only one business running here.

Gathering sulphur, salpeter and charcoal you make some firecrackers for the Legion party and wash yourself in the Public Baths with the few sesterces you made from your pasta stand. You are just as clean as any Roman, using soap that some lunatic developed in Rome before mysteriously vanishing. Invited in the tent of the local camp commander you drink wine and thank the god Bacchus for the abundant recolt. Enough to sustain the city in local fruits and grappes, not enough to be independant from Egyptian wheat though.

You serve small bowls of salmon, tagliatelle and fresh cheese seasoned with laurier, accompanied with the wine it tastes like a delicacy from heaven. Military are pleased but Roman austerity tradition refrain them from too much extravagence. They are not ready to invest in a pasta company. However they demand for the recipe... They demand it politely since you look quite strong... Actually they would like to pay 500 sesterces you for the recipe since they respect strengh.

Meeting with the governor as the "pasta guy" you kept some firecrackers from last time and make him a demonstration. You propose him to industrialize on a large scale one type of black powder based weapon. This weapon will be available for one legion for the next 50 years (turns). Also, you have made up your mind, you will go to Germania with that legion if the chance presents itself the next year.

What weapon this legion should have ?
>congreve rockets to replace catapults
>flame thrower inside a turtle formation
>handgrenade for every soldier

With your contacts in the military you can meet a Praefectii and force the generalization of one of your previous invention too all the legions, so it would not only be for civilian use or eclusive to one legion. You could also try to meet some merchant in a less favorable context and try your independant black powder business.

Walking in the city (which is your first view of the Roman world outside Rome) you cannot ignore all the social inequalities, where malnourished beggar live one foot from obese merchant, where the rule of law is just a word, where locals never accepted the pax romana. If Rome want to annex new territories, maybe they should know about some trick from one of their future descendant named Machiaveli. What about writting the book yourself ? It's the perfect climate to do so.

You decide to go to the Forum and discuss with rich merchants now that your are famous for the black powder. They wonder if it is really destined for civilian use. You talk about moving obstacles to build road faster or fireworks, it could even clear a path in the Alps to get in Germania faster and creating trading routes ! So you get your chain of supply of charcoal for black powder. Anywhere in the empire, if you start an arsenal you will not lack charcoal. That's awesome, the law passed in the senate ! But... If you remember your History lesson on the urine tax, the Romans don't, "money does not stink", but salpeter recolted in latrinium actually smells like piss. When you asked the governor to send the law proposition to the senate a merchant was already here and he heard and smelled enough of you to give you the reputation of the "Piss Guy". Bad luck it seems. Yep, that guy who created the pastas is the "Piss Guy". Forget about meeting anyone new until the end of the next year, pasta will never be commercialized in Rome.

You arsenal is producing a fair amount of black powder and you get all the revenue without having to pay for charcoal or salpeter supplies. You produce 1 ton per year (until Pompeii get destroyed by the volcano at least). How do you want to dispatch this year production and how to ?

You made 500 sesterces from the black powder deal, but use 600 sesterces to transfer it in Mediolanum (Milan). Overall you loose 100 sesterces in the operation. The barrels are escorted by some legionnaires of the legion which is about to leave for Germania. Since you hired profesisionals for the transport, they warn the soldiers to not make camp fire near the barrels.

Your "piss guy" reputation is starting to piss you off, you are also stil quite frustrated. Wandering around near the rich villas just to have a closer look of the women activity in Pompeii, you notice most of their time is spend on looming machine. Apparently, making your own clothes is something laborous but a sign of wealth. Also, these poor women who could be in parks and gardens instead of their home... alone... Maybe it is time for some textile innovation.

The sun is setting and head back to your arsenal. On the road you notice every house has at least one light bulb powered by a volta battery.

Grabbing a wheel of a broken chariot from a recent spectacle, yuo manage to get some raw wool and start making a yarn in the shadow of the arena. People curiously look at you, the "piss guy" who just made a yarn in less than a minute. Sadly nobody dare to approach you, so you leave the place with a basket of yarns back to your arsenal, leaving the spinning wheel there for someone else to take credit. You depart to Rome to face the senate once more, it seems to nobody is calling you "piss guy" after you leave the walls. You leave your home in the care of the greek slave without a wife to return to...

>Are you gay ?
frustration +100, cha... jk

Rome is blooming like never before, public sanitation has improved, light bulbs everywhere, there is also more slave available since stonecutter were partially replaced by the use of black powder. It is now time to bring civilization to barbarians. The Senate is ready to hear what you have to say... well at least the military and merchant branch, scientists left. The emperor is just watching as usual, you still don't impress him.

The imperator immedialty want to name someone like you at least tribunii of the general Antonius Gaius because you are worthy enough. You will meet again some of the guys you befriended, namely the three brothers and the senator's son. There is also this guy... Arminius...

Legio XIX is marching toward Mediolanum (Milan), your tour of duty as a citizen as begun. You will bring civilization to the barbarians. The march is exhausting, you thought they would never stop. Your feet hurt, you are thirsty. Next step is after the alps, just before the barbarian territory. You jump on your legion ratios and even eat your supplementary slices of fazzoletti. Soldiers are given a perm in Mediolanum before the next march. it's the last big Roman city, after that you will have to trade with barbarian for everything.

(too bad they couldn't inform you sooner with some kind of telecommunication device) They haven't crossed the Reuss river yet, they can still be stopped. The barbarians stamping furiously on the other side of the bridge can only throw at you vague insult you don't really understand. They are about to flee and don't fight you, but since your soldiers are exceptionally brave one cohort accept to face them alone. Barbarians see a chance here and decide to charge. Your turtle formation is waiting, a flamethrower hiding inside. Legionnaires are holding the line, waiting... waiting... A warcry is echoeing in the valley but Rome does not tremble. The bridge is shaking under their assault and finally the fire of Rome is unleashed on the primitive. Thousands of people died in an instant.

Arminius fails at hiding that he spend to much time outside the camp, you guess that something is up. Your First Century Sherlock Holms instinct (and your incredible charisma) reveal you that he has met with a tribe living after the swamp. Hence, you can reasonably assume you will be attacked right after the swamp when your men are the most exhausted.

Keeping an eye on the traitor you take place near a campfire, listening to the legionnaires stories. There is this one telling about a slutty cavewomen tier barbarian IX/X girl promising to "love you long time". Somehow you interupt a fight caused by ethnic tentions between Greeks and Iberians. When it's your turn to talk about your experience with women you... well you...

The fog begins to dissipate... Just at the outskirt of the swamp, you see them. The Germans come out of the tree, man. Legionnaires are ready and hold the line, opposing their shield to the unorganized assault of the barbarians. Arrows rain down on the Legio XIX. It's a long battle of attrition like they are used to. Quickly the Romans turn the tide of the battle like always when they are outnumbered, there is no hope for the Germans. After loosing half of their forces, they begin to retreat and since legionnaires are not retrenched all the first line move forward. Flamethrower are ready to annhilate the survivor and reveal themselves. Trapped between the hammer and the anvil, there is no escape.

Wow, just wow... Just with conventional defense the legionnaires annhilate the Franks. You don't need to use all your black powder. They thought they just had to approach the wooden door and set it on fire. If they were lucky they would have attacked during day time, thus noticing all the traps between them and the camp. So not only did they impaled themselves on pikes, but they did it all together. When the survivors approach the camp and set it on fire, Gaius order to open the Gate, so they believe that you are going to escape and mass all together in front of it and... charge... right on the flamethrower...

Setting the camp near what will become (or won't become) Berlin you ask one cohort to go hunting. Tonight, a huge banquet is organized to give a little boost to their health. During the festivity you sneak in Arminius tent and look for evidence of trason. You find a small statue representing a Germanic god. Strange for a barbarian who adopted every Roman customs. There's also a map of the region and where the barbarian army is waiting for you. You start to spread rumors about Arminius but refrain to tell Gaius as you see that he will desert in you do so. It appears you have to choose between keeping a traitor and valuable source of information with you or facing the consequences of his desertion.

Thanks to the Vikings you clear the path for Legio XIX, thus making the march easier and more relaxed. However, the men are kind of demoralized you decided to rely on barbarians.

Tonight dinner is only about the two strange horsemen, they seem to be quite the laughing stock "Ay lmao dude" says a centurion. Not even a word for the meat the first cohort has brought from its hunt.

You teach some counter-insurgency techniques to the three brohters. Quite the irony here, the SS tactics applied on Germany. It was a bold move, but it worked. Now onto the final region before heading back to Italy... Oh wait ! You choose to face a tribe in the nearby region at the beginning of the campaign. Due to the nature of the field back then, some escaped and you will face twice as much in the last region, thus doubling every costs.

What do ? (pick Two (2) solutions)

You sell 1t of blackpowder for 1000 sesterces, with the remaining 1t, you decide to build roads in the Alps for 200 kg and dedicate 100kg to make firework and firecrackers for the first European Festival of Firework in HIstory. Miners in Cologne get paid for their useless coal (until you find an application to it), 500 kg of coal acquired. They also managed to find some diamonds. However, Vikings don't receive their money, be sure that they will come back for you. Rome just made a terrible enemy. You wish you had pillaged at least one territory...

Preparing to face the Senate, you know that you have to max your stats. As you already know, max charisma will get you the support of administrators (getting a toll for your roads in the Alps), max strengh will get you the respect of the military (military defense of Germania, generalization of your inventions to all legions) and max Intelligence will allows you to get the attention of the scientists on Cologne in Germania (otherwise it stays like that).

You too can rest and heal

After the party, you get your intelligence restored. Speaking strategy with the toppest of Roman military strategist always help. However, some soldiers consider you more of a careerist than a true general.

The Legio XIX is ready to head back to Rome, soldiers are exhausted from the campaign, they are somewhat honored that they served under your command but not loyal enough for a second campaign right away. Also, you will not cross the Rubicon this time...

They disband and return to their family. The Senate is ready to hear what you have to say. A pathetic weakling like you doesn't get any attention from the military, they are quite impressed by the campaign but think it is more due to Roman soldiers bravery than your puny strategy, they leave. Stay the scientists and administrators. The emperor watch quietly, not ready to make you his right arm.

You may be weak, but your voice is strong and your acts during the campaign speak for themselves. Rising your tribunii gladius at the half-germanic spy you simply shout "TRAITOR". He will not rally the viking to his cause now. Germania is safe for the next year. Arminius is literraly shaking, but the evidence you gathered in Germania are enough to convince the senate. A small guard of praetorian storm the senate and take him by force. WHAM WHAM the hammer nails him to the cross, high and low for every Roman to see.

For more precisions on the charge you ask the guard what he was accused of. Apparently he saw a patrician beating up a slave which angered him fiercely. After that Indi used a nearby whip agains the slave merchant to give him a taste of his own medecine. He defended his cause in front of a tribunal. Romans were impressed by his rethoric skills, too bad he was a foreigner and didn't get the same right than a citizen... This means you can't get him out of jail just with 500 sesterces, and bribing a praetorian is out of the way.

You choose to make Whey dehydrated powder. This means you have to buy a calf and butcher him to get rennet (a complex of enzymes produced in its fourth stomach). You also get some milk from the farm where you bought the calf.

OP you have mistaken Tomatoes with Potatoes.

Tomatoes came from india and were introduced to Europe by Roman merchants.
>>
>>1535742
>The tomato is native to western South America and Central America.[6] Native versions were small, like cherry tomatoes, and most likely yellow rather than red. A member of the deadly nightshade family, tomatoes were erroneously thought to be poisonous by Europeans who were suspicious of their bright, shiny fruit.[citation needed] The leaves are in fact slightly poisonous, although the fruit is not.[25]

>Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés may have been the first to transfer the small yellow tomato to Europe after he captured the Aztec city of Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City, in 1521, although Christopher Columbus may have taken them back as early as 1493. The earliest discussion of the tomato in European literature appeared in a herbal written in 1544 by Pietro Andrea Mattioli, an Italian physician and botanist, who suggested that a new type of eggplant had been brought to Italy that was blood red or golden color when mature and could be divided into segments and eaten like an eggplant—that is, cooked and seasoned with salt, black pepper, and oil. It was not until ten years later that tomatoes were named in print by Mattioli as pomi d’oro, or "golden apples".[26]:13

You are packed with some other wannabee gladiators. The presentator annonces "This is a reconstitution of the Second Fall of Carthago, I offer you... the barbarians from Carthago !" Apparently you and your men will be sacrified. Two charriots enter the arena, the presentator annonces "I offer you... the troops of Scipio Africanus".

I'm going to make a recap without focusing too much on the Time Traveler.

Electricity
Invention : light bulb, generators/motors, volta batteries (all small power)
Site : Elba Island
Effect : every street in Rome have at least one light bulb
>no Great Fires of Rome

Steel
Invention : bessmer process (firestone furnace operated by slaves)
Site : All the Empire, Copper produced in Massilia raffined
Effect : public housing now use metal rode to strenghten infrastructure
>no Great Fires of Rome, population growth

Sanitaion
Invention : soap, caustic soda, isolate sceptic tanks from water wells
Site : All the Empire
Effect : soap publicly available in baths (not used in the army), caustic soda used to clean sewage
>no Great Epidemy of Rome

Textile
Invention : spinning wheel
Site : All the Empire
Effect : low cost clothes
>Time Traveler can change clothes whenever he want and manipulate odorant materials witout bad effect

Gunpowder
Invention : Gunpowder, ceramic flamethrowers
Site : Pompeii
Effect : gunpowder used for construction (not always weaponized)
>Legio XIX used ceramic flamethrowers once

Food
Invention : pasta
Site : All the Empire
Effect : pasta ratios
>Legions can now march much farther into the barbaricum

So as you can see there is no great change of civilization, introduction of electricity has the same effect as very safe oil lamp, steel same as using logs to build house and fire retardant and gunpowder just fasten stone quarry exploitation and bridge/road/tunnel buildings. Ironically it's more simple inventions which transformed the Roman society. Spinning wheel which made yarns more available had a huge impact on the women activity. They spend more time into clothe making than treating wool meaning more clothes on the market, maybe a fashion revolution and all it will bring into the society. Also, pasta were a revolutionnary way of carying high calories ratios into hostile territories, before that the Legions had to stop and bake their own bread using crops.

tl;dr
>pasta and cheap yarns ftw
oh yeah, and you conquered Germania

The blacksmith of the arena said he never witnessed a fire this hot and ask you where did you get this strange wood, now is not the time, but maybe as a famous sportman you will get asked to advertise some products or you can make some of yours known. The armor is finally made, bright shiny hardened steel.

Back to the gladiator's barrack you prepare yourself for the final fight. It's time to face a Roman gladiator, someone who can't loose. You will face him, four praetorians and 2 lions.

How do you prepare ?

The crowd don't really like you (charisma tool low), it is now impossible to play in a Roman commercial and make popular whey powder AND the electric lance. Actually these inventions are despised, viewed as cheater tricks.

Which invention do you want to save ?

>Electric lance
-Roman legions cannot loose against infantry and can launch a campaign against Zulu

You come just in time to save Indi from Roman prison and get all his stuff. The latin professor is actually quite knowledgable in many antic language. What do you want to do with your newly acquired items while Indi recover ?

Meme is strong with this one. Using Ancient Shitposting you make your fans paint your exploits on every walls of Rome. The Jupiter's lance is a famous gladiator weapon and soon will equip every Legions. A simple touch to a an enemy shield or lance and it's instant death. The Roman Army is now ubeatable agains tinfantry (even when outneumbered) if they have recharged their lance in a camp before the battle. At the end of this year, you could ask the Sentae to go down the Nile river, deeper in Africa.

Taking off the shoes of Indi while he is asleep you present them to your local tanner. He don't really like it, They are seen as barbarian and useless in a warm climate such as Rome. What's the use of shoes when you have roads ? Anyway, he agrees to make you some but it won't impress any senator, you have to mass produce them and make a legion march with it to demonstrate their utility, or... you could try to bribe a senator.

>use whisky and bribe the Senator to adopt leather shoes (whisky lost)
>mass produce leather shoes to make a demonstration during a march (-20 000 sesterces)

A gladiator like yourself will never have to pay for a drink the rest of his life. As a matter of fact, you are more than welcome to this party. Fires have been replaced by light bulbs inside the villa, some are even colored, women wear very reffined outfit. You had a more important impact than you thought on Roman society, just not the one you expected. It's as if you were transported in the Roman part of Westworld, an amusement park where outfit looked more like costums than real clothes.

There is your old friend Gaius (general of the Legio XIX) and Carus (Parefectii of engineering an artillery), also the three brothers and the Senator's son... By Venus ! There is a women winking at you !!!1! Do you want to try your luck with women her or not ?

I'm taking your choice but in the order I proposed, first the girl then the three brothers.

-smart, can run any of your business

-can join any party in Rome without invitation
-young and beautiful (random charisma bonus)

You talk about good times in 'Mania with the three brothers. Your friendship is something forged on the battlefield now, they had like to present you their father to help your shoes business. It's late, you return to your poor state provided insulae where Indi has now recovered. You explain him what is going on, but he seems very attached to Human Rights and can't stand slavery. He has a very precise idea of how the Roman society should evolve and like Caesar want to ban specific jobs for slaves so that the plebeians can work, also he wants to be paid 5000 sesterces per year.

In exchange of what he proposes you to help the transition toward a semi-agregarian semi-industrial society or to pacify tribes during your next campaign. For now you agree and take the direction of the three brothers' villa. The head of the family is a rich leather provider for the legion, he has hunter from the barbaricum to bring him pelts which are tanned here in Rome by slaves to be crafted into gear, canteen, whatever...

The mention of "slaves" seems to anger Indi
>Propose the merchant to industrialize tannery
-initial investment of 50 000 sesterces
>Explain that shoes making is a very complex process that require non-slaves craftmen
-wait 5 years before enough shoes are made for a Legion to invade Africa
>screw Indi, steal his items and have him killed
-Industrialization route lost
-shoes available to invade Africa

After your business meeting, you can meet with the fine lady you befriended during the party. What's your approach ?

As you struggle to remember Frederick Taylor and Henry Ford teachings, Indi give on you a friendly pat on your back "you're a good kid". No longer it will be the burden of a lone slave to mass produce a good from scratch and be rewarded depending on the quantity of products he made. No longer craftmen will perform their art in a quite cosy workshop.

Only minimalist work and repeated moves on an assembly line, for optimal production, y-you're a good kid, r-right ?
